A Father-Son Adventure: Simon Cowell and Eric Team Up for a New Book Series
Hold onto your hats, folks! Simon Cowell, the man behind some of the biggest names in entertainment, has just announced something truly special. Alongside his 6-year-old son, Eric, they’re diving into the world of children’s literature with a brand-new series called Wishfits. The announcement came on Monday, February 24, and it’s already creating a buzz among fans and book lovers alike.
What’s the Story Behind Wishfits?
Simon, now 60, couldn’t contain his excitement as he shared the news on social media. “To begin with, we have announced a seven-book deal with @hachettekids today,” he wrote, adding that this isn’t just any ordinary series. “WISHFIT is a world where the most unusual animals exist. The WISHFITS are magical, unusual, and have evolved in a weird and wonderful way, combining two different species to form hybrid animals with very distinct characteristics!”

A Sneak Peek at the Characters
As Simon dives deeper into the magical realm of Wishfits, he’s giving fans a taste of what to expect. These aren’t your ordinary animals. Some of Eric’s favorites include the DAT (dog/cat), the COG (cat/dog), the SNOG (snail/dog—a combo that’s as enthusiastic as a dog but moves at a snail’s pace), and the PEEP (pig/sheep). And let’s not forget the CHUG (cheetah/slug—the slowest cat in the world). There’s also the HIPPOROO (hippo/kangaroo), the CHIMPANPOO (chimpanzee/poodle), the POLARBAT (polar bear/bat), the CROCOPUSS (crocodile/cat), and the SHIGER (sheep/tiger—the most nervous cat in the world). These characters are just the tip of the iceberg, with many more to come!
The Inspiration Behind the Idea
But how did this whole idea come about? Simon shared that the inspiration struck three years ago thanks to a very special friend who runs a Children’s Hospice charity. “I told her one evening about some of the funny animals my son Eric and I would invent, starting with the Cog and the Dat,” he explained. “And how every evening the two of us would think of the most unlikely animal we would like to have as a pet. She loved this idea so much she encouraged me to turn this into a book series.” It’s safe to say the rest is history!

Eric, despite being young, is already showing signs of following in his father’s footsteps. Simon himself admitted to this possibility, sharing during an appearance on the U.K.’s This Morning in November 2018, “He’s in training. I’m getting him ready to do my job.” It’s clear that Simon sees great potential in Eric, and perhaps this book series is just the beginning of a father-son legacy in the entertainment world.
Stay Tuned for More!
We can’t wait to see what Simon and Eric have in store for us with their upcoming books. It’s going to be a wild ride filled with laughter, imagination, and unforgettable characters. Keep your eyes peeled for the release of Wishfits—you won’t want to miss it!
