Before welcoming her second son, Jacob Fisher, in January 2019, Carrie Underwood faced a series of heartbreaking miscarriages. In a candid new interview, the powerhouse behind "Cry Pretty" shares how this challenging chapter reshaped her perspective on life and motherhood.

Learning to Let Go of Control

Reflecting on her journey, Carrie shared with Women’s Health for their April issue how difficult it was to come to terms with her body not doing what she expected it to. “For my body to not be doing something it was ‘supposed to do’ was a tough pill to swallow,” she revealed. “It reminded me that I’m not in control of everything, no matter how much I wish I could be.”

Carrie explained that this experience taught her a profound lesson about surrendering control and embracing uncertainty. “It’s one of those things where you have to trust the process and believe that things will work out in their own time,” she said. “It was a humbling experience, but one that ultimately brought me closer to understanding myself and my purpose.”

    Finding Strength Through Vulnerability

Carrie, who is also a proud mom to her 5-year-old son, Isaiah, emphasized the importance of opening up about her struggles with miscarriages. “Once I started talking about it, it felt like a weight lifted off my shoulders,” she confessed. “It’s not a dirty secret. It’s something that so many women go through, and we need to talk about it more openly.”

She went on to explain how difficult it was to keep up appearances during such a painful time. “I was still trying to do my job and put on a smiley happy face and be Carrie Underwood,” she told The Guardian in June 2019. “And then I’d go home and fall apart. It was like living two completely different lives.”

    A Supportive Partner

Throughout her journey, Carrie found strength in her loving husband, Mike Fisher. “Mike was always there for me, holding me up when I couldn’t hold myself up,” she said. “He taught me that it’s okay to lean on someone else, to not always have to be the strong one.”

Despite the heartbreak, Carrie remains grateful for her children. “I will always mourn those children, those lives that were like shooting stars, fleeting but beautiful,” she told CBS Sunday Morning in September 2018. “But now I have Jacob, and he’s incredible. He’s the sweetest little baby. Even though that time was awful, and it still hurts, I have this beautiful reminder of hope and resilience.”
