It wasn’t part of the plan, but Ann Jillian became a beacon of hope for millions of women. Starting her acting career at just six years old, Ann made her mark in the '80s with roles that highlighted her sharp, comedic wit. One of her most memorable characters was Cassie Cranston, the sassy waitress in the sitcom It’s a Living. However, her life took an unexpected turn when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1985, leading to a double mastectomy. Her courageous journey was immortalized in the 1988 TV movie The Ann Jillian Story, which inspired countless women to seek medical help. Now 70, Ann reflects on her storied career, her enduring marriage to manager Andy Murcia, and her pride in raising her son, Andrew. “Even with the tough times, I feel incredibly blessed,” Ann tells Closer Weekly in their latest issue, now available on newsstands. “It’s been a beautiful life.”

A Milestone Birthday: Celebrating Resilience and Health

Ann’s journey from a cancer diagnosis to becoming a symbol of resilience is nothing short of remarkable. It’s been 35 years since her diagnosis, and today, she’s in excellent health. “I owe it to early detection, swift medical intervention, and regular checkups,” Ann shares. While doctors recommend annual visits, Ann prefers to go every four to six months to stay ahead of any potential issues. “My mom survived for over 40 years without a recurrence, and I hope to follow in her footsteps,” she says with a hopeful smile.
