Thanks to their kids — James, 17, and twins Tabitha and Marion, both 10 — the couple got to enjoy some much-needed alone time. In a candid interview with Bruce Bozzi on Radio Andy, Sarah opened up about how they celebrated their special day.
Let me tell you, it wasn’t some extravagant getaway or a lavish dinner at a fancy restaurant. Instead, it was a night filled with comfort and connection. Sarah shared, “We were like, what are we going to do for our anniversary? And we did what I do every day. I cooked dinner. I cleaned the kitchen [and] we got the TV that night.” But here’s the kicker — the highlight of the evening came when their kids told them they could tuck themselves into bed, giving their parents the freedom to binge-watch their favorite show all night. How’s that for thoughtful?
Sarah, 55, couldn’t help but laugh when she recalled her kids’ sweet gesture. “I was like, why, thank you. Don’t spoil us,” she joked. That night, the couple finished watching their favorite show, Babylon Berlin. “So that was our anniversary and it was really nice,” she said with a smile.

In honor of their special day, Sarah took to Instagram to share a throwback photo of her and Matthew. The caption read, “May 19, 2020.
23 years.” She added, “We’ve come a long way baby. X, SJ.” This simple yet heartfelt post reminded fans of the couple’s enduring love and commitment.
The Secret to Their Long-Lasting Marriage
So, what’s the secret to their successful marriage? Sarah credits her long-lasting relationship with Matthew to staying strong and always having each other’s backs. “We’ve grown,” she told Us Weekly in September 2019. “We have a family, we have children, we have friends that have passed away, we have relationships … We don’t talk about it — that’s how it stays strong!”
Another key to their success is keeping their relationship private. Sarah and Matthew prefer to cherish their moments together without oversharing on social media. “We love going to the theater, we love eating, we love being with our friends!” Sarah told People in 2018. “It’s those times that are few and far between because [of our] work and kids’ schedules, but we’re happy.”
A Surprise Getaway
Sarah also shared a story about an unexpected getaway she and Matthew enjoyed. “We found ourselves alone. We went away but we didn’t plan it. It just happened because our son was away on a trip and our daughters were otherwise engaged and we ended up alone,” she explained. “It was so amazing. It was really fun.”
