Getting Her Start: From Baby Model to Star
How did it all begin? Did you always know you wanted to act?
Honestly, acting wasn’t something I ever planned for myself. It started as a fun little hobby when I was just 9 months old. My mom and I lived close to New York City, and we’d spend our days going to auditions and casting calls. It was a bonding experience for us, and I was such a happy baby that I think people just gravitated toward me. Who knew that little hobby would turn into a lifelong career?
The Magic of The Cosby Show
What made The Cosby Show so special, and why do you think it resonated with audiences?
The Cosby Show was groundbreaking in so many ways. It wasn’t just about showcasing an African-American family—it was about showing a family that anyone could relate to, no matter their background. The Huxtables were relatable, real, and full of heart. They were doctors, lawyers, and parents who faced everyday challenges. The show was ahead of its time in terms of representation, and it opened doors for so many others in the industry. It wasn’t just entertainment; it was a cultural phenomenon.
Growing Up in the Spotlight
What was it like growing up in the public eye? Did it affect your childhood?
My parents were incredibly intentional about keeping me grounded. They made sure I had a normal childhood, complete with chores, school, and responsibilities. While the world may have seen me as Rudy Huxtable, at home, I was just Keshia. They shielded me from the limelight as much as possible, which I’m so grateful for now. At the time, I didn’t fully grasp the magnitude of what we were doing, but looking back, I realize how lucky I was to be a part of something so impactful.
Did You Ever Feel Like You Missed Out on a "Normal" Childhood?
Not at all. I had an incredible childhood filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Sure, it was different, but isn’t everyone’s childhood unique in its own way? Mine just happened to involve cameras and scripts. I’ve traveled the world, met amazing people, and experienced things most kids only dream of. If anything, it’s made me who I am today, and I couldn’t be more proud of that.
Pursuing Education and Beyond
After earning a sociology degree, did you ever consider a career outside of acting?
I’ve always been passionate about acting, but I also wanted to expand my horizons. Studying sociology with a focus on film allowed me to combine my interests and explore the intersection of storytelling and social issues. While I’ve dabbled in other areas, acting has always been my true calling. It’s a gift I’ll never take for granted.

Reuniting with Tyler Perry's House of Payne
What was it like returning to the set after such a long hiatus?
It felt like coming home. After all these years, the cast and crew are like family. We’ve shared so many moments on and off-screen, and that bond only grows stronger with time. Reuniting for the ninth season was both exciting and nostalgic. It’s incredible to see how the characters have evolved, especially the younger ones. Watching them grow up in front of my eyes is surreal—it’s like looking in a mirror of my own journey.
