When filming Nine Perfect Strangers in Australia, Nicole Kidman decided to make the most of her time at home. She invited her sister Antonia and her family to move in with her. “We had three of her younger kids — she has six — living with us,” Nicole shared. “I absolutely adore being around children. It’s one of my favorite things in the world.”
Of course, Nicole, who’s now 54, already has two daughters with her husband, Keith Urban: Sunday, who’s 13, and Faith, who’s 10. But her journey as a mother started long before that. Nicole also raised two now-adult children, Isabella, 28, and Connor, 26, with her first husband, Tom Cruise. It’s clear that motherhood has been a defining part of her life.
Confiding in Marie Claire Australia: Nicole’s Biggest Regret
Despite her full and loving family life, Nicole has some regrets about her family. In a candid interview with Marie Claire Australia, she opened up about her past struggles. “I wish I’d had more children, but life didn’t give me that choice,” Nicole admitted. She revealed that she suffered an ectopic pregnancy and a miscarriage in her 20s, experiences that shaped her perspective on family. “I would’ve loved to have 10 kids. But that’s okay because I get to mother other children. I have six wonderful nieces and nephews, and I’m also a godmother to 12 kids,” she said with a warm smile.

Adoption Talks: Why Nicole and Keith Haven’t Expanded Their Family
Nicole and Keith, who’s 53, have considered adopting more children. But according to a close friend, the timing has never felt quite right. “They’ve talked about it, but it hasn’t happened yet,” the friend shared. Nicole also feels that adopting more children right now wouldn’t be fair to her daughters, Sunday and Faith. “She wants to focus her attention on them. Expanding the family could take away from the time and energy she dedicates to her girls,” the friend explained.

Prioritizing Family Amid Busy Careers
Despite Nicole and Keith’s demanding careers — Keith is returning to The Voice Australia this fall — they make family their top priority. Their daughters, Sunday and Faith, are homeschooled so they can travel with their parents. “They sometimes complain about having to move around so much,” Nicole laughed. “But I remind them that they’re global citizens. They have friends all over the world, and that’s a pretty incredible thing.”
Being physically together allows Nicole to stay deeply connected with her family. A close friend describes her as a “wonderful mother” who practices “gentle discipline” and believes in “unconditional love.” “I truly love being a mother. Kids are quirky, funny, and unfiltered. And the best part? Watching them grow up and setting them on their path,” Nicole said.
But she’s in no rush for them to grow up too fast. “They’re such fun girls,” Nicole gushed. “I can’t wait to see what they’ll accomplish in the future. It’s exciting to think about.”
