Just weeks into the highly anticipated production of Indiana Jones 5, Harrison Ford has unfortunately been sidelined with a shoulder injury sustained during a choreographed fight scene. At 78 years old, the legendary actor continues to bring his iconic character to life, but the demands of the role aren’t without challenges at this stage of his career.
Reprising a Legendary Role
Back in his signature brown fedora, Harrison Ford is reprising one of his most beloved characters. It’s a role that has defined him for decades, and fans couldn’t be more excited to see him back in action. However, as we all know, time marches on, and with it comes the inevitable physical toll on even the toughest of actors.
According to Deadline, during rehearsals for a fight scene, Ford sustained an injury involving his shoulder. The incident occurred on June 23, as reported in a statement from Disney. Now, you might think, “How does something like this happen?” Well, even the best-trained stunt professionals and actors can run into unexpected issues when performing complex choreography. It’s a reminder that these action scenes aren’t just a walk in the park—they require precision, timing, and sometimes, a little bit of luck.

Production Continues Despite Setback
Disney’s statement assured fans that production will continue while the appropriate course of treatment is evaluated. The filming schedule will be reconfigured as needed in the coming weeks to ensure Harrison’s full recovery. Filming began earlier this month at London’s Pinewood Studios and other locations throughout the U.K. The film is set to hit theaters on July 29, 2022, so there’s still plenty of time to get everything back on track.
A Familiar Feeling
For Harrison, this isn’t the first time he’s encountered an injury while bringing a beloved character back to life. In 2014, during the filming of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, he suffered a broken leg when the heavy door of the Millennium Falcon malfunctioned and crushed him. That incident also happened at Pinewood Studios, adding an eerie coincidence to the mix.
Harrison recounted the accident during a 2015 appearance on the U.K.’s The Jonathan Ross Show. He compared the original 1977 Star Wars, where a door would have been closed with a pulley and a stagehand, to the high-tech, big-budget version they were working with in the newer films. Harrison explained, “Now we had lots of money and technology and so they built a f–king great hydraulic door which closed at light speed and somebody said, ‘Ooh I wonder what this is?’” mimicking the pressing of a button.
He continued, “And the door came down and hit me on my left hip because I was turned to my right. And then it flung my left leg up and it dislocated my ankle and as it drove me down to the floor, my legs slapped on the ramp up to the Millennium Falcon and broke both bones in my left leg.”
Looking Forward
Luckily, this latest injury doesn’t seem as severe as the one Harrison suffered on the Star Wars set. With proper care and rehabilitation, there’s no doubt that Harrison will be back in action sooner rather than later. This guy’s a fighter, and if anyone can power through a setback like this, it’s him. Fans around the world are wishing him a speedy recovery and eagerly awaiting the continuation of this epic adventure.
