Let’s face it—most of us who grew up with The Brady Bunch have a favorite episode. Whether it’s Marsha getting hit by a football or the boys dealing with the curse of the tiki in Hawaii, there’s something about those episodes that sticks with us. For Barry Williams, the actor who stepped into the role of Greg Brady back in 1969, the pilot episode holds a special place in his heart. At just 14 years old, Barry began his journey as the eldest Brady son, and that first episode remains a cherished memory.
“There’s something about the pilot that feels so genuine,” Barry exclusively shared with Closer Weekly, currently available on newsstands. “There was an innocence to it. We were all getting to know each other, and it was such a fresh start. It laid the groundwork for the humor and the warmth that would define the show for years to come.”
From the Screen to Real Life: A Lasting Legacy
When you think about it, none of the cast members could have predicted that The Brady Bunch would become a timeless classic. But here we are, more than 47 years after the original sitcom wrapped up, and Barry, now 66, still shares a deep connection with fans who see him as part of their family.

Still Talking About the Brady Bunch? Absolutely!
Now, let’s be real. If you’ve been part of a show that’s beloved by millions for over five decades, wouldn’t you get tired of talking about it? Not Barry. In fact, he’s more than happy to keep the conversation going.

Could Barry Have Chosen a Different Path?
Sure, Barry’s life has been intertwined with show business since he was a kid, but has he ever thought about doing something else? While he admits he’s always been fascinated by law—especially entertainment law—he’s not about to trade in his acting career anytime soon.
“Entertainment law might have been interesting, but acting has always been my passion,” Barry says with a laugh. “And hey, who knows? Maybe one day I’ll get to play an entertainment lawyer on TV!”
Would He Have Stuck with Showbiz if the Brady Bunch Hadn’t Taken Off?
Even if The Brady Bunch hadn’t become a hit, Barry says he was committed to a life in show business. “I’ve always been dedicated to this industry,” he explains. “The show’s success was unexpected, even by TV standards. But it’s been an incredible ride. From sitcoms to cartoons, movies to variety hours, The Brady Bunch has taken on so many forms. It’s really one of a kind.”

A Close Bond with the Cast
So, who does Barry keep in touch with the most? “Christopher Knight and I are very close,” he reveals. And why has the cast stayed so connected over the years? Barry believes it’s because they all shared such a unique experience.
“We grew up together in front of millions of people, playing family members,” Barry says. “That created some challenges, but it also brought us closer. We’ve always looked out for each other, and that bond is something special. It’s like we’re part of this exclusive club.”

A Passion for Theater

Branson and Beyond
Barry’s adventures haven’t stopped there. He spent time in Branson, Missouri, performing in a full-scale variety show that celebrated the music of the ’70s. More recently, he’s formed a trio with his wife, Tina, called Barry Williams and the Traveliers. “It’s a more intimate setting, and we’re having a blast,” he says.
No Plans to Retire Anytime Soon
With so much still on his plate, retirement isn’t even on Barry’s radar. “I’m as passionate about my work now as I was when I was a teenager,” he says. “I’ve found something I truly love, and I don’t see myself stopping anytime soon.”
Advice for His Younger Self
If Barry could go back and give his younger self some advice, he’d tell him to relax and enjoy the ride. “I was such a serious kid,” he recalls. “I’d tell myself to lighten up, do my best, and savor every moment.”
Family Matters
Barry’s two children haven’t followed him into show business, but he’s proud of their unique paths. “My son is a musician and a full-time student, and my daughter has a big personality,” he says. “Whether or not they choose this industry, I’ll always support them 100 percent.”
