How Molly Yeh and Nick Hagen Found Love Amidst the Arts
Molly and Nick’s love story is as unique as it gets. They met when they were both students at Juilliard in New York City, where Nick, a fifth-generation farmer, was studying the trombone, and Molly was a percussionist. The couple started dating while living in Brooklyn, and during that time, Molly launched her wildly successful blog. This was the beginning of a beautiful journey that would eventually lead them both back to Nick’s roots in the Midwest.
In an interview with Glamour back in October 2019, Molly opened up about the moment Nick brought up the idea of moving to the farm. “When Nick mentioned moving to the farm, I thought, ‘Oh my gosh. I could spend my days blogging,’” she said. “That was the moment when I realized this could really work for us.” It was a leap of faith that paid off in more ways than one.

While dating, Molly gave Nick a playful nickname on her blog—“Eggboy.” Why? Because he ate an absurd amount of eggs daily. In her book, Molly on the Range, the Emmy-nominated chef revealed that Nick’s love for eggs stemmed from none other than Zac Efron. Apparently, it all started when Zac Efron talked about eating a dozen eggs every day to bulk up for his role in The Lucky One. A dietitian okayed it, and Nick ran with the idea, making eggs a staple in his life.
Nick now enjoys his wife’s mouthwatering recipes, which she creates for her Food Network series. In 2013, they moved onto the farm Nick inherited from his family. As a full-time farmer, Nick gathers fresh eggs daily from the chicken coop, ensuring that their meals are as fresh as they come. Many of the ingredients Molly uses in her dishes are grown right on their property, where the couple also tied the knot in 2014. Their wedding was an intimate affair, complete with guests showering them with colorful sprinkles. Molly baked all the desserts for the reception, and she’s since embraced life on the farm wholeheartedly.
“In most parts of the Midwest, the best food is found in people’s homes, on their farms, at church potlucks,” Molly told Glamour. “The culture of home cooking is incredibly strong. Nick has recipes that have been in the family for generations, and he still knows the stories behind them.”
Building a Family Together
In March 2019, Molly and Nick welcomed their first child, Bernadette Rosemary Yeh Hagen. Bernadette was named after Nick’s great-great-grandfather, Bernt, who started the family farm, and her middle name comes from Molly’s grandmother, Rosemary. In a June 2021 interview, Molly opened up about how they were navigating life as first-time parents. “It’s become clear that Nick is the fun one, dancing and singing and spinning her up in the air,” Molly shared with pride.
Their family grew even bigger in September 2021 when Molly and Nick announced they were expecting their second child. In an interview with People, they expressed their excitement about adding “a new little bean to the family!” Their youngest daughter, Ira Dorothy Yeh Hagen, was born in February 2022, bringing even more joy to their already beautiful life together.
