Life is full of unexpected twists, and for dancer Karina Smirnoff, one of the most beautiful chapters began with the arrival of her baby boy, Theo Gabriel. The former "Dancing With the Stars" star welcomed Theo in April 2020, and ever since, she’s been navigating the joys and challenges of motherhood during a global pandemic. Let’s dive into her story and see how she’s making the most of this unique time in her life.
Motherhood Amid the Pandemic: Karina’s Honest Take
Let’s face it—2020 was a year no one saw coming, but for Karina Smirnoff, it came with its own set of blessings. In a candid Instagram Live chat with fellow dancer Anna Trebunskaya in May 2020, Karina opened up about the unexpected gift of quarantine: more time with her newborn son. "At this point, I’m just waiting for the quarantine to be over so we can get on the road and resume our normal life," she admitted. But even as she eagerly awaits a return to normalcy, she can’t help but appreciate the silver lining. "It’s kind of weird … I will say I am enjoying being home because I wouldn’t have had that opportunity with the baby if it wasn’t for quarantine," she confessed. Of course, like many of us, she’s also feeling the strain. "But at the same time, I am going a little crazy," she joked.

A Day in the Life with Theo
So, what’s life like for Karina now? Well, it’s a whirlwind of diaper changes, feedings, and—let’s not forget—those infamous baby farts. "If I’m not changing him, I’m feeding him, if I’m not feeding him, I’m changing him," she explained with a laugh. And those farts? "Oh my god, the farts are so loud. When I’m holding him and he does it, and the whole family looks at me, I’m like, it’s not me, it’s him!" she joked. Despite the chaos, Karina wouldn’t trade this time with her son for anything. "But seriously, holding him? There’s nothing better than that feeling," she gushed.
Sharing Theo with the World
Karina’s fans can’t wait to see more of Theo, but she’s taking her time before sharing too much. "It’s not that I’m hiding him by any means, but the Russian Orthodox religion is, you’re not taking the baby out and showing it right away," she explained. "Usually, we take a month to make sure the baby’s strong before we introduce him to the world." Once Theo’s ready, though, Karina plans to share plenty of adorable photos of her little one on social media.
Karina’s Heart Melts for Her Little Manipulator
There’s no denying that Theo has already wrapped his mom around his tiny fingers. "I think he’s already manipulating me," Karina admitted with a smile. "He’s like ‘wah wah’ and I take him in my arms and he’s like [smiling]. How can you say no to that face?" It’s clear that motherhood has brought Karina immense joy, even amidst the challenges of quarantine.
As for the identity of Theo’s dad, Karina hasn’t publicly commented. But one thing’s for sure—she’s savoring every moment with her little miracle.
