Hoda Kotb and Joel Schiffman's Co-Parenting Journey

Today host Hoda Kotb has shared new insights into her co-parenting arrangement with her ex-fiancé, Joel Schiffman. Despite their split, this dynamic duo has figured out a harmonious way to spend time with their two daughters, Haley Joy and Hope Catherine. It’s like they’ve mastered the art of modern parenting, ensuring both parents play an active role in their children’s lives.

Here’s how it works: “He’ll have a Saturday, and I’ll do the Sunday. We switch each week,” Hoda revealed to People back in August 2022. "It’s like a little dance. Joel takes the girls out for some fun adventures, and I use the time to recharge. It’s a healthy mix, and the kids absolutely love it. Joel is an amazing dad, and I couldn’t be happier with how it’s all working out.”

Communication is Key in Their Post-Engagement Life

Even though their engagement ended in January 2022, Hoda and Joel are committed to making co-parenting work for their children. They’ve learned that clear communication is the backbone of their success. “Does that work for you? Do you need me to change that?” These are the kinds of questions they ask each other regularly. It’s about being flexible and understanding each other’s needs, even with their hectic schedules.

Expanding the Family: Hoda's Future Plans

At 58 years old, Hoda isn’t ruling out the possibility of expanding her family further. She adopted Haley, now 5, in 2017, and Hope, now 3, in 2019. She told the media that having a third child is definitely something she’s open to. “It’s definitely in the universe for me,” she shared enthusiastically. “I love being a mom; it’s a calling I came to later in life, but it’s brought me so much joy.”

However, not everyone was on the same page. After announcing their split on Today, a source revealed to Closer that expanding the family was a point of contention between Hoda and Joel. “He’s a great dad, and they even tried adopting a third child, but some say that managing two, let alone three young children, was something Joel struggled with,” the source explained. “Hoda, on the other hand, is all in. She would adopt more kids if she could, and that’s something they didn’t always see eye to eye on.”

Love and Possibilities: Hoda's Heart is Still Open

While Hoda is adjusting to her new role as a single mom, she hasn’t closed the door on finding love again. At a May 2022 event at The Paley Center for Media in New York City, she opened up about her future romantic prospects. “I haven’t really thought about who I would see myself with, but I do have to say something,” she admitted. “Even my sister asked me once, ‘Are you afraid to be by yourself?’ And I told her, ‘I’m not going to be by myself.’ I don’t know why I said it so clearly, but I realized my heart is open. I have an open heart, and I’m ready for whatever comes next.”
