For close to a decade now, Hoda Kotb has given her audience an inside look into her life with Joel Schiffman on the beloved show Today. As they built their family together, adopting two daughters, Haley Joy and Hope Catherine, Hoda has shared the highs and lows of her relationship. Now, the question everyone's asking: Are they still together? Keep reading to find out.
The Beginning: How Hoda and Joel Met
Their story began in 2013 at a New York City event where Hoda was the guest speaker. It wasn’t love at first sight, but after two years of getting to know each other, they made their relationship public in 2015. By 2016, the New York Times bestselling author and the successful financier decided to take their relationship to the next level by moving in together. Their family grew quickly with the arrival of their first daughter, Haley, in February 2017, followed by their second daughter, Hope, in April 2019. And just as their lives were settling into a beautiful rhythm, Joel surprised Hoda with a proposal in November of the same year.
Hoda recounted the magical moment to People, saying, “Joel got down on one knee, and we were both crying. Tears streamed down his face as he struggled to get the words out. He finally managed to ask, ‘Will you be my wife?’ It was one of the most emotional moments of my life.”

Of course, life had other plans. The couple’s dream of a picturesque wedding in November 2020 was disrupted by the global pandemic, pushing their plans back to the summer of 2021. But even as they navigated the challenges of the times, Hoda expressed her desire to expand their family further, revealing in July 2021 on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen that she hoped to adopt a third child. However, the process was slower than expected due to the pandemic, and sources suggested that Joel found it challenging to manage the demands of a growing family.

The Turning Point: Are Hoda and Joel Still Together?
Fast forward to January 31, 2022, when Hoda delivered some unexpected news on air. The couple had decided to part ways, choosing to focus on their roles as friends and co-parents. In an emotional statement, Hoda explained, “Joel and I have had a lot of prayerful and meaningful conversations over the holidays, and we decided that we’re better as friends and parents than we are as an engaged couple. So, we’ve decided to start this new year on a new path as loving parents to our adorable, delightful children, and as friends.”
Though the news came as a surprise, both Hoda and Joel have shown remarkable grace in navigating their new reality. Two weeks after the announcement, Hoda shared a heartwarming video on Instagram, celebrating Valentine’s Day with her daughters. It was a clear indication that their bond as parents remains strong.
An insider revealed, “They didn’t feel the need to stay together just because they have young children and got engaged. They didn’t overcomplicate things. They simply told the girls that daddy was going to live in his own house. Feelings change, life takes different paths, and they’re both okay with that. What they had was special, and they look forward to raising their girls together.”
Hoda's Journey: Love and Beyond
In November 2022, Hoda opened up on an episode of Today about the possibility of finding love again. Speaking with Jenna Bush Hager, she shared, “Can I tell you something weird for everybody who is at a phase in their life where they may or may not be with a partner? My sister once asked me, ‘Are you afraid of being by yourself?’ And you know what, it sounds strange, but I said to her, ‘I’m not going to be by myself.’ I actually know it with every fiber of my being. I mean, I have two beautiful daughters who I’m wild about.”
Her words resonated deeply with her audience, who erupted into applause. She went on to describe her intuition about finding the right person in the future. “I know with certainty, and it’s the strangest feeling to know that I can sometimes almost feel him,” she added. “Like I can feel him, but I don
