If you've been glued to your TV watching Chip and Joanna Gaines on HGTV, you're not alone. But let's shift our focus to another dynamic duo: Shea and Syd McGee. These two have become the darling couple of home renovation on Netflix, captivating audiences with their show and their stylish Target decor line. Everyone’s wondering—how's the love life? Are Shea and Syd McGee still as happy as ever? Let’s dive into their story and find out.
How Shea and Syd McGee Found Love
Let’s rewind to the beginning of this love story. Shea, originally from Texas, moved to Provo, Utah, to attend Brigham Young University. During a visit to her brother at Utah Valley University, she met someone who would change her life forever.
As Shea shares in their New York Times bestseller, Make Life Beautiful, her brother introduced her to Syd with a warning: “My buddy Syd will be there and you’re going to like him, but don’t, because he’s my friend.” But love doesn’t follow rules, right? When Shea pulled up to the parking lot, she saw Syd on a skateboard, rocking the skinniest jeans she'd ever seen. The rest, as they say, is history. They went on their first date the very next night, and the chemistry was undeniable.

Are Shea and Syd McGee Still Together?
Fast forward to after graduation: Shea and Syd tied the knot in 2018 and made a bold move from Utah to Laguna Beach, California. But their love wasn’t just about the beachy vibes—it was also about design. Shea shared with MyDomaine how their life together began to take shape: “Once Syd and I moved into our first newlywed apartment, I couldn’t stop thinking about how to transform our tiny 400-square-foot space into something that felt like home. I wasn’t passionate about my day job, so I poured all my spare time into design magazines and blogs.”
This passion for design blossomed into something bigger. In 2014, the couple decided to leave the high cost of living in California and head back to Utah to launch their own design company. As their business grew, so did their vision. Two years later, they launched their e-commerce brand, McGee & Co., which quickly became a trailblazer in the interior design world. Their line with Target, Studio McGee, made beautiful design accessible to everyone. And guess what? Nearly a decade after starting their business, Shea and Syd are still madly in love.
Meet the McGee Family: Three Beautiful Girls
Netflix fans got a glimpse of Shea and Syd’s daughters, Wren, 8, and Ivy, 5, during the first season of Dream Home Makeover. But the family grew even bigger when the McGees welcomed their third daughter, Margot, on July 18, 2021.
“We’re so excited to welcome baby girl number three into our family!” the couple told People at the time. “Margot McGee joined us Sunday morning, and mama and baby are doing great!”
While fans might have hoped to see baby Margot on the show, the timing didn’t work out. The McGees wrapped filming for season three just a week before Margot’s due date. But don’t worry—there’s always next season!
