This is a big deal, folks, as Showtime continues to bring its signature edge to streaming platforms. So, buckle up and get ready for a wild ride!

Production Kicks Off in the Big Apple

When it comes to assembling a dream team, the creators of Dexter: Resurrection have hit it out of the park. The star-studded cast includes Uma Thurman as Charley, David Zayas returning as Detective Angel Batista, Jack Alcott as Dexter’s son Harrison Morgan, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine as Blessing Kamara, and Kadia Saraf as Detective Claudette Wallace. It’s a lineup that promises to deliver thrilling performances and unforgettable moments.

But wait, there’s more! Fans can also look forward to appearances by Dominic Fumusa as Detective Melvin Oliva, Emilia Suárez as Elsa Rivera, James Remar reprising his role as Dexter’s father Harry Morgan, and the ever-talented Peter Dinklage as Leon Prater. This ensemble is set to take the show to new heights, and it’s clear that the creators are pulling out all the stops to make this spinoff a must-watch.

Two Dexter Series on the Horizon

Now, here’s something that might intrigue fans of the original series. Dexter: Resurrection is a separate entity from Dexter: Original Sin, the 2024 prequel series. While Resurrection continues the legacy of the original, Original Sin takes us back in time to explore the early years of Dexter. The prequel stars Patrick Gibson as a young Dexter, charting his journey from a curious student to the morally complex serial killer we all know and love—or maybe love to hate. Both series promise to offer unique perspectives on the Dexter universe, so there’s something for everyone.

Let’s take a trip down memory lane for a moment. The original Dexter series was nothing short of a phenomenon on Showtime, running for eight seasons from 2006 to 2013. It captivated audiences with its dark humor, complex characters, and gripping storylines. A sequel series, Dexter: New Blood, aired in 2021, and now we’re getting Resurrection, which is sure to keep the momentum going.

For Steve Schirripa, this is a new chapter in a storied career. As Closer previously reported, Steve’s tenure on Blue Bloods came to an end after 14 seasons and 293 episodes in December 2024. When he joined the series in 2015 to portray Detective Anthony Abetemarco, he was welcomed with open arms by his co-stars.

“It was a very close-knit group, really, a nice group of people,” Steve shared with People. “I didn’t know anyone, so it’s strange when you’re stepping in and everyone knows each other, and you’re the new guy. But they treated me like one of them from day one.”

  • Steve went on to explain how his role expanded over time. “I was there nine years. I went in for one, maybe two episodes. I did 146,” he says. “I did two episodes and the showrunners said, ‘Would you like to do more?’ And I said, ‘I’d love to.’ So I stuck around and they wrote some great stuff for me.”

His co-star Tom Selleck, who played Frank Reagan, addressed the show’s conclusion in an interview with Variety. Tom revealed that he had one last request before bidding farewell to the beloved series. “It really looked like the handwriting was on the wall,” he said, adding that he went to CBS and managed to convince the network that doing eight more episodes would save money.

The final season was split into two parts — 10 episodes aired last spring and eight last fall. “The show deserved a legacy we’re proud of,” Tom reflected. “I can’t figure out why they didn’t start streaming it, doing 10 episodes a year. But I’m not the boss. Everybody wanted to come back. And I think with this cast, it would have been a gift for the audience.”

As Tom, now 80, noted, “I don’t make those decisions. I’m prepared to celebrate and commemorate this show, but I’m still getting used to it.”
