Remember the wholesome days of "Roseanne"? Michael Fishman, the beloved actor who portrayed DJ Conner, is giving fans a candid look into the life of a child star. Fishman, now a grown man with a wealth of experience under his belt, is reflecting on how fame can be a double-edged sword, especially for those who find themselves in the limelight at a young age.

Childhood Fame: A Public Stage

During a heartfelt chat with Remind Magazine on March 17, Fishman revealed some insightful thoughts on the challenges of being a child star. "People often struggle with fame, but for child actors, the stakes are higher," he explained. "Everything we do is out in the open, and it can feel like the world is watching every move. That pressure can amplify issues and make life feel like a fishbowl."

He went on to say, "Think about it—most people have those awkward, uncomfortable moments during their teenage years. Maybe you did something silly or embarrassing. The difference for us is that those moments are front-page news. Add judgment or shame to the mix, and it can spiral out of control. Unfortunately, some turn to self-medication, which only makes things worse. But let me be clear: this isn't unique to child stars. There are countless good people out there who have overcome similar struggles and gone on to do amazing things."

At just six years old, Michael Fishman stepped into the role of DJ Conner, the son of Roseanne and Dan Conner. His journey through the world of television wasn’t just about acting; it was about growing up in front of millions of viewers. By the time the original series ended, Fishman was a teenager. Later, he reprised his role in "The Conners," which carried on the legacy of the original show from season one through season four.

In 2022, Michael made the bold decision to step away from "The Conners." Through a statement shared with People, he expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to play such a pivotal role. "Being a series regular on a groundbreaking show like 'Roseanne' is a dream come true for any actor," he said. "We tackled significant topics, blended comedy with drama, and worked alongside some of the most iconic castmates in the industry. It was a privilege to connect with fans in meaningful ways. I’m especially proud of portraying a military veteran, an interracial spouse, and the father of a biracial child, played by the incredible Jayden Rey."

Fishman admitted that he would miss the Friday night tapings and the camaraderie with the cast and crew. However, he was excited about what the future held. "I’m eager to explore new opportunities in this next chapter of my career," he shared enthusiastically.

    Transitioning Careers

Michael is now focused on expanding his career beyond acting. "I have several writing projects in the works, and I'm currently negotiating my next directing opportunities," he revealed. "Even though I won't be portraying DJ anymore, my passion for bringing characters to life remains strong. I’m truly grateful for everyone who has supported me throughout my journey."

As "The Conners" prepares for its seventh and final season on March 26, Fishman won’t be making an appearance. However, he’s optimistic about the future. "I’m searching for the right projects as an actor, just like every other actor out there," he said. "Sometimes, you're limited by your type or the roles available, but as a writer and director, the possibilities are endless. Creativity is my only limitation, and I’m excited to pitch a variety of shows, including comedies, dramas, and films."

He also expressed interest in directing. "I want it to be a passion project because stepping into that role requires dedication. On the TV side, I’m open to more episodes and opportunities. Honestly, I’d be a great fit for pretty much any show looking for fresh talent."
