John Travolta has entered a new chapter in his life since turning 70, and it's largely thanks to the unwavering support and guidance he receives from his children. As sources reveal to Closer, the legendary star of Grease credits his kids for helping him stay on the right path during one of the toughest times in his life—the loss of his beloved wife, Kelly Preston, who passed away after a two-year battle with breast cancer in 2020.
“They are incredibly loving and supportive to their dad. John doesn’t know how he’d get through life without them, especially now that Kelly is gone,” an insider exclusively shares with Closer, shedding light on the deep bond John shares with Ella and Ben. “These kids are wise beyond their years, and they’ve been a lifeline for him.”
A Family Closer Than Ever
“While they each have their own lives—Ella with her blossoming music career, Ben with his friends and activities—they’ve managed to maintain a strong, unbreakable connection with their dad,” the insider continues. “John depends on them for advice on everything from meals to fashion and travel plans. It’s a testament to their incredible bond. In many ways, they embody the ideal Hollywood family. John feels incredibly blessed that Ella and Ben inherited their mom’s wisdom, kindness, and strength. He’s learned over the years that family always comes first.”

A Proud Father on Social Media
John never misses an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of his children, especially on social media. Just last month, he marked the start of 2025 with a heartwarming family photo on Instagram. “Happy new year from the Travolta family,” he captioned the image, showcasing his pride in Ella, 24, and Ben, 14.
Months earlier, John couldn’t contain his excitement when Ella released her song “Little Bird” and its accompanying music video. “This is a very special day. Ella is releasing her new single called ‘Little Bird,’” John wrote on Instagram on September 6, 2024. “This song and video pay tribute to her mother, and it also happens to be my wedding anniversary with Kelly. It’s part of her upcoming album, which I had the privilege of helping produce. Please enjoy it!”

Ella's Tribute Through Music
Ella spoke candidly about the inspiration behind “Little Bird,” explaining how the song serves as a tribute to her mother. “It’s about holding onto those pure relationships you have with people you’ve lost and really listening to yourself, staying true to that connection,” she told People in a September 2024 interview. “It’s like a mama bird talking to a baby bird, reminding them not to let outside interference get in the way because your true instincts were there all along.”
“It’s been a couple of years since my mom passed, so I could step back and reflect on the situation. I wanted to communicate what I was feeling and what I wanted to say to her,” Ella added. “Completing the EP felt really good because it allowed me to honor her in a way that felt authentic and meaningful.”
The music video for “Little Bird” features cherished moments from Ella’s childhood with her family, celebrating the life and legacy of her mother. “I wanted the video to be a celebration of life,” Ella explained. “Even when you lose someone, it’s important to celebrate the time you had with them—the memories you shared. It’s a reminder that you were lucky to have them in your life for as long as you did.”
Of course, John and Kelly’s family journey hasn’t been without heartbreak. They welcomed son Jett in 1992, but tragically, he passed away in January 2009 at the age of 16. Despite these losses, John continues to find strength and solace in his bond with Ella and Ben.
