Tarek El Moussa Shares His Struggles
In his own confessional, Tarek, 43, opened up about the health battles that took a toll on his life and marriage. His journey wasn't easy, and he wasn't afraid to admit it. "I got diagnosed with cancer and I hurt my back, and then I lost 60 pounds because I was taking so many opiates and Vicodin and painkillers," he confessed. "I lost my way, lost who I was. Tarek and Christina tied the knot in 2009 after three years of dating. Together, they welcomed their daughter Taylor in 2010 and son Brayden in 2015. However, their lives took a turn when Tarek faced health challenges that tested their relationship.
The Cancer Diagnosis That Changed Everything
In 2013, Tarek revealed his thyroid cancer diagnosis after a viewer noticed a lump in his throat while watching his HGTV show. He recounted the experience, saying, "They said they would remove half of it and be done in an hour. But it ended up being four hours, it was cancer, and they ended up removing my entire thyroid." He vividly remembered waking up to see his wife crying and immediately knowing the worst. "The first thing I asked was, 'It’s cancer, isn’t it?' And she said, 'Yeah.'"
Tarek's battle with cancer didn't stop there. He was also diagnosed with testicular cancer and underwent surgery. Afterward, he faced new challenges, including side effects that affected his mental health. "After having my testicle removed, I went to an anti-aging clinic and was prescribed testosterone to help with side effects from what they thought was low testosterone," he told Patient Resource. "It made all my issues worse, especially the anxiety and depression. We determined my testosterone wasn’t low, and I was basically getting double what I needed. It created what they call 'roid rage,' and I felt manic and angry."

A New Chapter for Both
After his cancer battle, Tarek and Christina announced their split in 2016. They addressed their decision in a statement to People, acknowledging the challenges they faced as a couple. "Like many couples, we have had challenges in our marriage," they explained. "We had an unfortunate misunderstanding about six months ago and the police were called to our house in an abundance of caution. There was no violence and no charges were filed."
The divorce was finalized in 2018. Tarek found love again with Heather Rae El Moussa, marrying her in 2021. Together, they welcomed their son Tristan in 2023. Meanwhile, Christina married Ant Anstead in 2018, and they had a son named Hudson in 2019. However, their relationship came to an end, and they were officially divorced in 2021.
Christina went on to marry her third husband, Josh Hall, in October 2021. They celebrated with a larger ceremony in 2022. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse, and they filed for divorce in July 2024, citing "irreconcilable differences." Since then, the situation has become increasingly complicated, with Josh being removed from The Flip Off amid their divorce proceedings.
