During the premiere of The Flip Off, Christina Haack (formerly Hall) shared that she never intended to divorce her estranged husband, Josh Hall. In an emotional confessional, Christina revealed the weight of her decision and the impact it had on her life.
Confiding in Tarek El Moussa
On the January 29 episode of HGTV’s The Flip Off, viewers watched Christina, now 41, open up to her costar and first ex-husband, Tarek El Moussa. She explained that she and Josh, 44, had officially ended their marriage. “I never wanted to get divorced,” Christina admitted. “I’m the only person in my family to ever get a divorce. It felt like the safest option to be back in a relationship, but in the end, it wasn’t safe at all.”
The Original Plan for The Flip Off
When The Flip Off was first announced, it was supposed to feature Tarek, 43, and his wife, Heather Rae El Moussa, competing against Christina and Josh in a high-stakes house flipping competition. However, after Christina and Josh split, Josh decided to leave the show. This added another layer of complexity to an already challenging situation.

Both Christina and Josh officially filed for divorce in July 2024, and their split quickly turned contentious. The couple has exchanged harsh words and accusations in legal documents and on social media, further complicating their already difficult separation.
A Bitter Battle Unfolds
On January 12, Christina admitted during an appearance on Radio Andy’s Jeff Lewis Live that her divorce from Josh had become even more contentious. “We’re nowhere near settling anything,” Christina said. “We’re heading to trial, and he doesn’t want to do mediation. It’s going to be… interesting, let’s say.”
Christina also expressed concerns about potentially having to cover Josh’s attorney fees. “They haven’t ordered me yet, but he’s been asking for it,” she explained. “I’ve already had to pay him some money.”
What made the situation even more frustrating for Christina was the way Josh had allegedly handled the funds she gave him. “I gave him money to help him get by, and what did he do? He went out and bought a Bentley,” Christina said. “And yet, he doesn’t have a job. But hey, if the Bentley helps him charm some ladies, more power to him.”
Before the show’s premiere, Christina acknowledged that she and Josh were on the verge of calling it quits when filming began. “I kind of knew it was going to happen,” she told People in an interview published on January 29.
She elaborated on her conversation with Tarek and Heather, revealing that they were aware of her issues with Josh even before the split became official. “I’d been talking to both of them about it,” Christina said. “They knew there were problems, and we had to figure out how to handle filming with Josh because things were already difficult.”

Despite the challenges, Christina found solace in the distractions that filming The Flip Off provided. “It was definitely a distraction,” she admitted. “It helped me take my mind off things. The show was stressful in its own way, but not because of our dynamic. It’s just flipping a house that fast—it’s tough, especially since I haven’t done it in a while. So, it was a good distraction overall.”
