Hold on to your hats, folks—S.W.A.T. has been canceled again, and this time, it's leaving fans reeling. For the third time in its run, CBS has pulled the plug on the series, leaving a void in the hearts of its dedicated audience.

The Showrunners Speak Out

Andrew Dettmann, the showrunner and executive producer, couldn’t hide his disappointment. In a statement released after the cancellation, he said, “It’s absolutely devastating to see this show get the ax again. Working with this cast and crew has been nothing short of an honor. They’ve been the backbone of S.W.A.T., pouring their hearts into every episode for eight incredible seasons. They’ve faced every challenge with grit and determination, and I can’t thank them enough for their dedication.”

Executive producer Shawn Ryan also weighed in, expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to bring S.W.A.T. to life. “Over these eight seasons, we’ve had the privilege of telling the stories of Hondo and the 20-Squad, and it’s been a remarkable journey. I want to thank our fans for their unwavering support, Shemar Moore and the entire cast, as well as our producers, Sony Pictures Television, CBS Studios, and CBS for believing in us,” he remarked. “Most importantly, I’m eternally grateful to our crew. Their tireless work and dedication have made every episode shine, and they deserve all the credit.”

    Shemar Moore Sounds Off

The show’s leading man, Shemar Moore, took to Instagram to express his feelings about the cancellation. In a heartfelt video posted on March 7, he shared his thoughts with his followers. “I wasn’t planning on doing this, but I can’t keep it in anymore. S.W.A.T. is here at the end of its eighth season, just three weeks away from the finale, and we’re getting canceled again. It’s tough. It’s heartbreaking.”

Moore, who’s no stranger to tough roles after his time on Criminal Minds, addressed his crew in an emotional speech on set. “You guys are the best crew in Hollywood—just genuinely good people. There’s no drama, no egos. Everyone shows up ready to work hard, sacrificing time with their families to create something special with S.W.A.T.,” he said, his voice filled with admiration and respect.

Another fan expressed their anguish, saying, “My heart is aching. I can’t believe this is happening again. It’s unbearable.”

“I’m so sorry to hear about this, Shemar. If no one steps up to save the show, thank you for everything. You’ve given us so many unforgettable moments,” another commenter added.

S.W.A.T. has faced cancellations before, only to be brought back by popular demand. The first time was after season six, and then again after season seven. When the show returned for season eight in October 2024, fans clung to the hope of a ninth season. “To CBS, if you’re truly done—yes, it’s about money, optics, and politics—but I believe this isn’t the right move,” Moore stated, marking his 31-year anniversary in acting. “But if it’s final, I sincerely thank you.”

“If CBS changes their mind, you’ll make a lot of people happy. But if you’re done, hey Netflix, are you listening?” Moore joked, hinting at the possibility of the show finding a new home. “We’re ready to go. We’re in autopilot mode. The world is watching, and we’d love to continue the journey. NBC, FOX, ABC—come flirt with us. We’re open to offers!”
