There’s something magical about watching a home come to life under the skilled hands of a passionate renovator. For Mina Starsiak Hawk, her journey renovating homes in Indianapolis has been nothing short of legendary. But one project stood out among the rest—Charlotte Hall. This wasn’t just any property; it was deeply personal. The dramatic transformation of this old mansion and carriage house was showcased during the HGTV series Good Bones: Risky Business in 2022. Scroll down to uncover what happened to Mina’s stunning Victorian property and why it means so much to her.
The Story Behind Charlotte Hall: A Labor of Love
Named after her daughter, Charlotte—whom Mina shares with her husband, Steve Hawk—Charlotte Hall is a place steeped in meaning. This 6,000-square-foot mansion wasn’t exactly ready for prime time when Mina first laid eyes on it. In fact, it was in rough shape. Fires had left their mark, and squatters had taken over. But Mina saw potential where others might have seen despair. As she told HGTV in July 2022, “Every house I buy is a terrible risk, but this one was different. It wasn’t just a $300,000 gamble; it was a $1.2 million leap into the unknown.”
What emerged from the rubble was nothing short of breathtaking. Mina and her team worked tirelessly to restore the 23-room home, turning it into a masterpiece. They revamped the grounds and outdoor spaces to create the perfect setting for hosting events. Inside, they unveiled a hidden speakeasy in the basement, transformed the carriage house into an event space, and redid multiple bedrooms. “I wanted this property to be more than just a house,” Mina reflected. “I wanted it to be a lasting piece of the community—a legacy that my kids could be proud of.”

Does Mina Still Own Charlotte Hall Today?
When Good Bones aired its final episode on October 17, 2023, fans were left wondering about the future of Charlotte Hall. At the same time, Mina announced she was closing her Two Chicks District Co. retail store and putting her company headquarters up for sale or rent. She also downsized her team, preparing to take on new projects in Indianapolis. With all these changes, many wondered if Mina had parted ways with the iconic property.

During an episode of her popular podcast, “Mina AF,” aired on October 16, 2023, Mina gave fans an update on the estate. “Charlotte Hall was the centerpiece of Risky Business, and yes, I still own it,” she revealed. “It’s currently available as a rental, so if you’re thinking about booking a stay in Indy, it’s still there for you. Believe me, I thought about selling it—I was pretty upset about the whole process for a while—but it hasn’t hit the chopping block just yet.”
When asked if she sees herself holding onto the mansion in the future, Mina expressed hope. “I really want to keep it around at least until Charlie grows up enough to appreciate it. After all, the place is named after her—it’s her namesake. Hopefully, we can make it last for years to come.”
