Let me tell you something, folks. Mina Starsiak Hawk, the star of the hit show Good Bones, recently opened up about making one of the toughest decisions of her career—closing her retail store, Two Chicks District Co. In a heartfelt episode of her podcast, Mina AF, she shared how this wasn't an easy call but one that she believes is necessary for her business and her family's future.

Why Did Mina Decide to Close Her Store?

Here’s the deal: Mina wanted her store to be more than just a shop—it was supposed to be a community hub. "We wanted it to be a place where people would bring their laptops, sip a glass of wine, work, and then grab a candle to take home," Mina, 38, explained. She envisioned it as both a neighborhood go-to spot and a destination for visitors. And guess what? It worked… sort of. While locals appreciated it, the majority of her customers—about 85%—were from out of town. This meant that the store excelled at drawing tourists but struggled to connect deeply with its immediate community.

Meeting Fans From All Over the World

Despite the challenges, Mina cherishes the incredible memories and connections she made during the store's three-year run. "It was so cool meeting fans from all over the world," she said. But there’s no denying it: running a retail business is tough, especially when you're not passionate about it. Mina admitted, "Retail is such a challenging industry, and it wasn’t really something I was ever super excited about." With her kids, Jack and Charlotte, practically growing up in the store, saying goodbye won't be easy. "It’s going to feel weird not having it in its old form," she confessed.

Mina believes this decision is ultimately the right move for her company. "When we close our doors at the end of the year, I’ll finally be in a position to pay off the construction mortgage on the building," she revealed. That’s a major win! She also mentioned that she has a strong emotional attachment to the space and has no intention of selling it. Instead, she plans to repurpose it in ways that align better with her long-term vision.

Interestingly, since announcing the closure, business has skyrocketed. "It’s been crazy with online sales and in-store traffic," Mina shared. "Everyone wants to come by before we close." She first broke the news on September 29 via the store's social media accounts, expressing gratitude to her loyal customers and acknowledging the bittersweet nature of the decision.

“My team and I know many of you have made Two Chicks District Co. a destination on your travels,” the announcement read. “Please know how much I value every single person I got to meet and spend time hearing their stories while in the store. It has been our second home, so saying goodbye, while gut-wrenching, is the decision I have to make for my family.”
