Deciding to wrap up the hit show Good Bones has left Mina Starsiak Hawk reflecting on her future in ways she never expected. In a candid episode of her podcast, “Mina AF,” which aired on October 10, the HGTV star opened up about the emotional and financial challenges she’s facing as she steps into the next phase of her life. Mina, who’s no stranger to hard work, admitted she’s feeling a little lost right now.
“For the last eight years, while it wasn’t exactly life-changing money, I had this steady income from the show. Now, I don’t have anything consistent coming in,” Mina, 39, shared with her listeners. “If I want to earn, I’ve got to hustle. It’s like starting from scratch, and that’s a tough pill to swallow.”
Currently, the design guru is working on renovating two homes, but they’re still months away from being ready. “I’ve got about three or four months of renovations left, and then I’ve got to sell them. So, right now, I’m in this uncertain place, not knowing exactly what’s next,” she explained, her voice tinged with vulnerability.

Mina's Difficult Decisions
On September 29, Mina made another tough call by announcing the closure of her Indiana retail store, Two Chicks District Co., in a heartfelt Facebook post. The decision wasn’t easy, as the store had been a dream project for her. “When we opened, I was so excited. I thought it would be this thriving hub, but it just didn’t take off the way I hoped,” Mina confessed.
Despite attracting visitors from all over the country who came to take photos and browse the inventory, the store struggled to make enough sales to stay afloat. Alongside closing the store, Mina also downsized her team to just two employees. “It’s tough on everyone. These girls are counting on me to get my act together so they can rely on me. I don’t want to let them down,” she said, her voice filled with concern for her team.

Support from Steve Hawk
As Mina prepares to say goodbye to Good Bones with its final two episodes airing this month, she’s been leaning on her husband, Steve Hawk. A self-employed fitness coach, Steve has been a rock for Mina during this challenging period. “We’re in this really stressful time right now, especially for the next three months. We’ve got a lot of expenses, but no steady income coming in for either of us,” Mina admitted.
Rental Property Woes
The couple, who tied the knot in 2016, has also encountered some bumps in their rental property business. “Out of our 11 rentals, five of them had their leases expire in the same month. We missed the prime school move-in time, and for the first time in years, half of our rentals are sitting empty. That’s adding a lot of pressure,” Mina explained, highlighting the unpredictability of their financial situation.
