A Surprising Lunch That Changed Everything
Back in 2020, Anson Williams, the beloved actor best known for his role on Happy Days, made a spontaneous decision that would change his life forever. He picked up his phone and texted his former real estate agent, Sharon MaHarry, out of the blue. He simply asked her if she'd like to meet for lunch. Though Anson wasn’t thinking about buying or selling a house, that lunch turned into a three-hour heart-to-heart. “We haven’t been apart since that day,” Anson shares with a smile, revealing the profound connection they instantly formed.
A Love Story with a Twist
Fast forward to last May, and Anson and Sharon, both 73, exchanged vows in a beautiful backyard ceremony in Ojai, California. The location? The very home Sharon had sold Anson 13 years earlier. “It’s such a gift when you find someone who sees the real you and loves you unconditionally,” Anson tells Closer. “Sharon is extraordinary,” he gushes, his voice filled with admiration and love.
Life's Timing: A Perfect Match
Life has a way of bringing people together at just the right moment. For Anson, 2019 was a challenging year. He and Jackie Gerken, his partner of 30 years and mother of three of his daughters, finalized their divorce for the second and final time. (Anson also has a child from his first marriage to actress Lorrie Mahaffey, who played his girlfriend on Happy Days.) After the breakup, Anson described himself as a “broken guy,” admitting, “I think I was a hermit up here, just kind of numb.”

Sharon, too, was dealing with her own struggles. She had recently lost her husband of 35 years after a long illness and was recovering from a serious back injury that had left her relearning how to walk. When Anson reentered her life, it was like a ray of light. “The first few months of our relationship were all about healing,” Sharon recalls. She sought the blessing of her adult daughter before embarking on this new chapter. “It absolutely freed me to take advantage of this, whatever it was,” she says. “Meeting Anson felt like a gift from God.”
Love Knows No Age Limit
Anson believes in the power of love at any age. “There’s no age limit on being loved,” he says. “There’s no age limit on living life to the fullest.” Their love story proves that age is just a number, and the right person can come into your life at any stage.
A Medical Miracle in Their Love Story
Sometimes, love brings unexpected blessings. Anson, a colon cancer survivor, underwent a surgical procedure in 2022 following a concerning cancer screening. During this time, he met a doctor who specialized in correcting atrial fibrillation, a condition Sharon also suffered from. At Anson’s urging, Sharon underwent AFib surgery, which revealed a shocking discovery. “They went in to perform a simple procedure on her and found a nonmalignant tumor attached to her aortic valve,” Anson explains. Sharon then underwent open-heart surgery to remove the tumor, which could have become life-threatening if left untreated. “That tumor would have eventually attached to her heart and killed her,” Anson says. “If we hadn’t met and fallen in love, there’s no way she would have known about it until it was too late.”
A New Chapter Full of Joy
For Anson, life and love have never felt sweeter. “We have an incredible connection,” he says of his new bride. “In a world filled with so much tragedy and negativity, it’s truly wonderful to find so much joy.” Their love story is a testament to the power of connection, timing, and the unexpected twists life can bring.
