Life can take unexpected turns, and for supermodel Paulina Porizkova, a much-needed beach vacation turned into a hospital stay. In an Instagram post shared on January 25, Paulina revealed she underwent a "long overdue" hip replacement surgery. At 58 years old, she's diving headfirst into a new chapter of her life, and she's sharing it with her fans every step of the way.
Paulina opened up about her medical journey in a candid way that fans have come to love. "Turns out I was born with congenital hip dysplasia," she explained to her followers. "Because of this condition, the cartilage in my hips has completely worn out. And when I say 'worn out,' I don't mean just a little worn down. No, there's absolutely none left." Her honesty resonates deeply, offering a relatable glimpse into the challenges many face but often don't talk about.
A Beach Escape Meets Medical Reality
Before heading into the operating room, Paulina made sure to enjoy her final moments with her old hips on the beach. In her Instagram post, she dazzled in a blue bikini, soaking in the sun and waves. But the transition from beach life to hospital life wasn't without its charm. "Hospital chic," she joked, showing off her new "wardrobe" while lying in a hospital bed. Due to the severity of her condition, doctors decided it was best to operate on both hips simultaneously, ensuring a complete transformation and a fresh start.

Paulina reflected on the significance of the surgery, saying, "So, I had one last vacation with my old hips—and now it's time for some new ones." Her words carry a sense of optimism and acceptance, reminding us all that sometimes, we need to let go of the old to embrace the new.
A Support System Like No Other
Through the anxiety and uncertainty that often come with surgery, Paulina had an incredible support system by her side. Her boyfriend Jeff Greenstein, her parents, and her sons Jonathan and Oliver stood by her in the hospital before the procedure. Paulina welcomed her children during her marriage to the late Ric Ocasek, who passed away in 2019. Their presence provided comfort and strength during a pivotal moment in her life.
Despite the anxiety about surgery, Paulina expressed immense gratitude for the opportunity to fix her condition. "Even as I'm anxious about the surgery—in a general 'surgery-is-not-how-I'd-like-to-spend-my-free-time' kind of way—I'm so grateful this is a fixable problem!" she wrote. Paulina found a doctor she truly trusts, one who specializes in anterior hip replacements. She's had an amazing vacation, and now, as her sister-in-law so wisely put it, "It's time to take a break from kicking ass and let everyone wait on YOU for a change!"

Paulina’s A-list friends were quick to offer their support and well wishes as she prepared for the procedure. Helena Christensen commented, "This will be so wonderful for you, no more pain. Sending love and strength and healing powers." Brooke Shields also chimed in, writing, "You will not be sorry!!!! Do the rehab and you’ll be as new as ever!!"
Less Social Media, More Life
Before the surgery, Paulina addressed why she had been less active on Instagram. "That's because I'm soaking up all the rays of happiness—understanding how precious and fleeting it all is," she captioned a snap with Jeff, 61. "Simultaneously, I'm sparing you endless cutesy posts of 'look-at-what-fun-I’m-having' photos. Life is magical at the moment—but that doesn't mean it's problem-free. When I’m back from vacation, I'll have to deal with the less 'fun' parts."
