Being an anchor on one of the most popular morning talk shows is no small feat, but Laura Jarrett has an incredible support system behind her. Since tying the knot with her husband, Tony Balkissoon, in 2012, the Today show host has flourished both personally and professionally. Let's take a closer look at this dynamic duo and how their partnership has thrived over the years.
The Sweet Beginnings of Laura and Tony's Love Story
Love can find you in the most unexpected places, and for Laura and Tony, that place was Harvard University. They met back in 2008 while both were pursuing their law degrees. Fast forward four years, and the couple decided to seal their bond in marriage. Their relationship blossomed during their time at Harvard, and it’s clear that their shared passion for law played a role in bringing them together.
Tony's current role as the vice president and executive counsel at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City is a testament to his dedication and expertise in the legal field. Throughout Laura's journey to becoming a successful broadcaster, Tony has been her rock, providing unwavering support and encouragement.

Reflecting on her career transition, Laura told TODAY.com in September 2023, "I was a six-year law associate at my law firm and starting to think about whether I wanted to try and make partner. But I realized there was no path for me that I was going to enjoy long term." This pivotal moment marked the beginning of a new chapter for Laura, one that would lead her to the world of broadcasting.
After landing a job at CNN, where she worked for six years, Laura made her way to NBC News as a senior legal correspondent in January 2023. By August of the same year, she announced her dream job as an official anchor on Weekend Today, stepping into the role previously held by Kristen Welker. "Tony would say, 'You’re so happy. You’re so excited about your work — and it makes you a better partner,'" Laura fondly recalled.

Building a Family: Laura Jarrett’s Journey into Parenthood
When it comes to family, Laura and Tony share a similar philosophy: timing is everything. They knew they wanted children but decided not to rush into parenthood. "Tony and I waited a while before we had children, which I think was super valuable because we just got to have fun. Kids are wonderful, but they can be extremely taxing on marriages," Laura explained.
For Laura and Tony, those early years together were precious. They cherished the time they spent as a couple, laying the foundation for a strong and lasting relationship. "We had a ball just the two of us for a long time and I think that really set us up for success," Laura reminisced.
Now, they are proud parents to two delightful children: son James Anthony Balkissoon and daughter June Tahay Balkissoon. Parenthood has brought its own set of joys and challenges, but for Laura, it's been a rewarding experience. "James is in a very intense puzzle and Sudoku phase," Laura shared with People in September 2023. "The other day, I was trying to help him with one and he was like, 'That’s OK, Mom. I don’t think you get it.'"
And then there's June, who fills their home with laughter and joy. "June is just, from the moment she wakes up in the morning to when we put her down at night, she’s laughing, she’s smiling," Laura gushed. "She’s now in this space where the moment I walk in the door, she starts squealing, and I just want to squeeze her all day. She’s a joy."
