"I've always cherished working with David; the actual design work was fantastic," she said. It was taking over my life, and the excitement just wasn't there anymore. It felt like the show had lost its spark."
Reflecting further, Hilary explained that after more than a decade of success, she felt it was the perfect moment to make a change. "There's this saying, 'If not now, when?' That really resonated with me," she confessed. "I've poured my heart into this show for years, and I loved every minute of it—until recently. The last season, filmed in Canada, felt more like a job than a passion project. It had become predictable, almost robotic. It was time to move on."

"It's all about helping people find the right solutions for their homes without all the drama that comes with Love It or List It. That show is built on tension, and while it works for TV, it wasn't where my heart was anymore."

Rest assured, Hilary isn't stepping away from HGTV entirely. In fact, she sees this as a fresh start rather than a retirement. "This isn't about leaving HGTV—it's about stepping back from Love It or List It," she clarified. "That show is a massive undertaking. It's incredibly demanding, both mentally and physically. Now, I want to focus on projects that align with my vision and values. Tough Love is just the beginning. I have so many exciting ideas in the pipeline, and I'm ready to bring them to life on my terms."
