It’s been a month since the final episode of Good Bones aired on HGTV, and tensions between Mina Starsiak Hawk and her brother, Tad Starsiak, show no signs of easing. The sibling drama has escalated to the point that Mina might not even be on the guest list for Tad’s upcoming wedding. If this sounds like a soap opera, well, life has a way of mirroring one, doesn’t it?
Mina Opens Up About the Rift
Mina, now 38, spilled the tea during an episode of comedian Alice Fraser’s “Tea With Alice” podcast, which aired on November 21. In a candid conversation, she dived deep into her strained relationship with Tad, who’s 30. Picture this: Mina was at her dad’s house picking up her kids—her kids who spend more time with her dad and stepmom than her mom. It’s in that moment when the rift between her and Tad really came to light.
“I was over at my dad’s house because my kids spend a lot of time with him and my stepmom—not so much with my mom—and I’m on the outs with my 30-year-old brother, who used to work for me,” Mina explained. “He said some pretty nasty stuff, and unfortunately, he did it in writing, so it’s all there in black and white.”

Conflict Dates Back to Earlier This Year
Back in August, Mina hinted at the trouble brewing between her and Tad during an episode of her own podcast, “Mina AF.” After a heated exchange via text, she decided Tad wasn’t someone she wanted around. Fast forward to now, and their relationship remains fractured as we head into the holiday season.
“I’ve given him so many opportunities because of all the hard work I’ve done,” Mina said, reflecting on her frustrations. “I’ve shared those opportunities with him, but they were never owed to him. Yet, he acts like they were, treating me poorly and even throwing out phrases like, ‘Sucks to suck.’ It’s just not okay.”
Holiday Drama Looms Large
Complicating matters further is the fact that Tad, who’s currently engaged to Anna Spiars, is planning his wedding. Meanwhile, Mina finds herself in a tough spot when it comes to navigating family time during the holidays. Setting boundaries with certain family members isn’t exactly easy, especially when emotions run high.
“It throws people for a loop when I try to set boundaries,” Mina admitted. “My dad, Casey Starsiak, has told both of us that we need to figure things out before Thanksgiving and Christmas. He’s the leader of the family, the head, but no one’s stepping in to help Tad make things right. So, I’m not just going to put myself in those situations.”
Mina went on to share a recent conversation she had with her dad. “I said to him, ‘Dad, as the head of our family, if it’s important for all of us to be together, I’d love some help in this situation. Maybe you can help assess what went wrong, solve it, and guide Tad to understand where he messed up. We could come back to a place of understanding.’”
Reconciliation Still Possible?
Despite everything, Mina hasn’t completely closed the door on reconciliation. However, she’s clear that an apology from Tad would need to come first. “Right now, all he’s done is tell me he’s engaged and that I’m probably not invited to his wedding,” she added, laughing wryly. “Which is fine, by the way. I’m almost 39, and I’ve been to plenty of weddings. I’m good.”

But there’s still hope. Mina believes Tad might be processing his actions and could eventually apologize—not just for her sake, but for their dad’s. “Maybe what he needs from me is to make Dad happy, so he’ll apologize and make it right. If that happens, we can all be together for Christmas. We’ll see.”
With her dad now 75, Mina feels it’s crucial to spend the holidays with him, knowing that time is limited. Whether Tad joins them remains uncertain, but one thing’s for sure: this family drama isn’t over yet.
