Whoopi Goldberg has come to the defense of Princess Kate Middleton in the midst of a global debate over photo manipulation. The EGOT-winning entertainer expressed her solidarity with the royal after questions arose about whether the Mother’s Day photo Kate shared online had been altered.

Whoopi’s Take on the Photo Controversy

Whoopi Goldberg, a 68-year-old veteran of the entertainment world, addressed the situation head-on during an episode of The View aired on Monday, March 11. "Listen, I don’t know many people who don’t tweak their photos in one way or another," she remarked candidly to her co-hosts. "All you need to do is swipe through social media, and you’ll see that hardly anyone looks exactly like their pictures."

The Debate on Edited Photos

While Sara Haines and Sunny Hostin argued that as the future queen, Kate should steer clear of posting edited images, Whoopi had a different take. "You know, she might be the future queen, but she's still just an amateur photographer," Whoopi quipped with her characteristic wit. "That's what they do! Everyone’s doing it, so why should she be any different?"

"This might come as a shock, but I’ve been on magazine covers where my face looked line-free and my skin tone was lightened," she admitted. "I’ve also seen pictures where I ended up looking like I had a donkey’s nose. The bottom line is, people can do just about anything with photos these days, and this shouldn’t be surprising to anyone."

    Kate’s Response to the Criticism

Kate, 42, shared the now-controversial photo of herself with her three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—to celebrate the U.K.’s Mother’s Day on March 10. The image, captured by Prince William, sparked speculation that it had been digitally altered. In response to the growing curiosity, Kate took to the Kensington Palace X account to clarify the situation.

“Like many amateur photographers, I occasionally experiment with editing,” Kate candidly admitted in her message. “I wanted to express my apologies if the family photograph we shared yesterday caused any confusion. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day. C.”

Kate’s Recent Recovery and Public Appearances

Earlier this year, in January, Kate underwent abdominal surgery and has since been taking time to recuperate, largely staying out of the public eye. It’s been reported that she’s unlikely to return to her public duties until after Easter. Her first public sighting since the surgery was last week when she was photographed during a car ride with her mother, Carole Middleton, near Windsor Castle.

Following the photo controversy, Kate made another rare public appearance as she left Windsor Castle with Prince William, 41, on Monday. The interest in Kate’s recovery and public appearances has surged on social media over the past few weeks. On February 27, the palace reassured the public by confirming that Kate was “doing well” in a statement to People.
