Today Show's Dressing Rooms Get a Much-Needed Makeover

Hey there, fans of the Today show! Guess what? A makeover is coming to the iconic morning talk show, and it's not just about the on-air set. The backstage dressing rooms, which have been the source of some recent drama, are getting a much-needed upgrade. Yes, you heard it right! The space that made headlines after Kelly Rowland's unexpected exit is about to get a fresh new look.

Hoda Kotb Drops the News on Upgrades

On a breezy Thursday, February 29, the beloved host Hoda Kotb spilled the beans to Page Six about the upcoming transformations. "We are [upgrading them]!" she exclaimed. Hoda, the warm-hearted journalist we all adore, shared that the makeover plans have been in the works for a while now. It's not just a cosmetic touch-up; it's about making the place more inviting and comfortable for everyone involved.

Jenna Bush Hager Joins In on the Excitement

Joining Hoda in the excitement is Jenna Bush Hager, who couldn't help but add a bit of humor to the situation. "We have four words for you: lipstick on a pig," she joked with Page Six. Jenna, the author of the heartfelt book Sisters First, went on to explain the simple yet effective changes they have in mind. "Just some wallpaper, some nice fake flowers," she added, lightening the mood with her playful tone.

  • But let's rewind a bit. This entire makeover idea came to light after Kelly Rowland, the talented singer and actress, walked off the set just before she was supposed to guest cohost on February 15. According to Page Six, Kelly, who's 43 years old, was reportedly dissatisfied with the backstage facilities. Some speculated her departure might have been due to an awkward interview with Savannah Guthrie, but the dressing room drama seems to have been the tipping point.

What's in Store for the Dressing Rooms?

Hoda, who's been a part of the show for years, revealed the exciting details. "We're going to have fresh paint," she said with enthusiasm. "We're going to add some new furniture and decoration and snacks. Maybe even a mini fridge!" Imagine that — a mini fridge in the dressing room. It might sound small, but it's the little things that make a big difference, right?

The cohosts admitted that while the current dressing rooms are outdated, the show itself feels like a second home. "We feel like it's a warm place to come, and we hear from people, 'We love being here!'" Jenna, also 43, expressed. She added, "It's New York City — everywhere we live is small!" There's a certain charm in that, isn't there?

    Inviting Kelly Rowland Back

After Kelly's abrupt departure, Hoda extended a heartfelt invitation for her to return. "I just wanna say this, I have great love and admiration for Kelly Rowland. I adore her. And I want her to come back on our show, and I want her to host again," she said on Today With Hoda & Jenna on February 20. It's clear that Hoda values Kelly's contribution and hopes to mend any fences that may have been broken.

    Savannah Guthrie Weighs In

Savannah Guthrie, 52, also chimed in on the dressing room controversy following her now-viral interview with Kelly. "We need a remodel. We need Extreme Makeover: Today Show Dressing Room Edition," she quipped to Entertainment Tonight on February 21. Savannah, who's been a part of the Today family for years, pointed out the historical significance of Studio 1A. "It's the same studio that has been used for decades. It's incredible and it's iconic, but it's old," she admitted.

She added, "You get the good with the bad ... If you want history, sometimes you're gonna have a few little chips of paint coming off the wall." Savannah assured fans that despite the challenges, the team is doing their best to ensure everyone feels welcome. "Hopefully, the main thing is how people feel and the reception that they get, a warm hug from all of us on the show, 'cause we're really grateful for them coming," she concluded.
