HGTV has been bringing joy and inspiration to millions of viewers for years with its heartwarming programming. But behind the scenes, there have been some dramatic twists and turns. Recently, Mina Starsiak Hawk, one of the beloved stars of Good Bones, revealed that her relationship with co-star Cory Miller has become essentially nonexistent. Let's dive into the details and explore what’s been going on.
A Surprising Instagram Comment Sparks Conversation
Although their friendship has faced ups and downs over the years, Cory recently made a surprising move. He commented with an emoji under one of Mina’s husband, Steve Hawk’s Instagram posts. Mina addressed this during an episode of her popular “Mina AF” podcast, which aired on February 5.
During the podcast, Mina, 39, shared her thoughts with her listeners. “Cory commented with a flex [emoji] on it, which is just strange because Steve and I aren’t friends with Cory. We haven’t spoken to him in what feels like close to a year,” she said. Despite the unexpected comment, Mina encouraged her audience not to overanalyze it. “It’s just one emoji, folks,” she added with a chuckle.

Addressing the Silence Between Them
Just weeks earlier, Mina had already touched on the strained relationship. She explained during a December 2023 podcast episode that she and Cory were “not on speaking terms.” Mina acknowledged that there were likely unresolved issues between them. “I’m sure there are things he feels like I did to him, and I’ve known him since he was 11. I’ve always had a soft spot for him,” she shared, her voice tinged with a hint of nostalgia.
The Root of the Conflict
While Mina didn’t delve deeply into the specifics of their disagreements, she did reference “a couple of things that happened toward the end” of their time working together on Good Bones. It seems the tension escalated as their professional partnership came to an end. As a result, the two decided to unfollow each other on Instagram. “I’ve got a lot of amazing people in my life, and part of that means not hate-following or anger-following someone. Letting go of negative energy is important,” Mina explained.
She went on to emphasize the importance of surrounding yourself with positivity. “So many people on social media follow others just because they want to see them fail or look bad in a picture. I’m just not interested in that. I don’t want other people to do it to me either,” she said, reinforcing the idea of mutual respect and kindness.

Shifting gears, Mina’s most recent podcast episode focused on her exciting new ventures. She discussed her family’s new lake house, which will be featured in an upcoming HGTV spinoff series. The property’s reveal was recently filmed, and Mina and Steve are thrilled to spend quality time there with their two kids, Jack and Charlotte.
Expanding Horizons: Mina’s Retail Ventures
In addition to her real estate projects, Mina is also expanding her retail empire. Her new store, Two Chicks District Co., is set to open in Noblesville, Indiana, this year. This marks a fresh chapter for Mina after closing the company’s flagship store in Bates-Hendricks, Indiana, late last year. With her entrepreneurial spirit and creative vision, there’s no doubt that Mina will continue to inspire fans and make waves in the design world.
