Hoda Kotb Races Through NYC Streets to Attend Her Daughter's Play
Even when life feels like a whirlwind, Hoda Kotb knows how to make room for what truly matters — her family. The beloved talk show host recently revealed that she sprinted through the bustling streets of New York City to catch her daughter’s play, all while juggling her responsibilities on the Today show. Her dedication to balancing her career and family life is nothing short of inspiring.
“Let’s be honest, moms, we’ve all been there — forgetting things here and there. And guess what? I’m no exception,” Hoda, 59, admitted to her audience on the Thursday, April 18, episode of Today with Hoda & Jenna. “Yesterday, my daughter Haley asked me, ‘Are you coming to my spring concert?’ And I was like, ‘When is it?’ She said, ‘It’s tomorrow!’”
Meeting Challenges Head-On
Hoda shares her daughters, Haley, 7, and Hope, 4, with her ex-fiancé Joel Schiffman. Despite her hectic schedule, she wasn’t about to miss this special moment in her daughter’s life. “Well, tomorrow is today. The play starts at 8:45, and if you’ve ever tried navigating midtown or the Upper West Side during rush hour, you know it’s no easy feat — especially with the rain pouring down!” she explained. “So, I made a decision: I was going to make it happen. I told Haley, ‘Mamma’s coming, sweetheart. Keep your eyes on that door; I’ll be there at 8:45, promise.’”

Hoda later recounted the thrilling ride to the recital. “My driver was driving like a maniac, weaving through traffic like we were in a Hollywood blockbuster. But somehow, we made it just in time! I locked eyes with Haley, and she gave me the sweetest wave to confirm I’d arrived. It was such a heartwarming moment,” she said. Hoda cherished every second of Haley’s performance while cradling her youngest daughter, Hope, on her lap.
From the Stage to the Studio
After the performance, Hoda didn’t waste a second. “By 9 a.m., the play was over, and we had a pre-tape for the Today show at 9:25. So, we rushed back to the studio, ready to roll. And guess who we got to interview? None other than the incredibly talented Orlando Bloom. It was an unforgettable day filled with love, laughter, and a little chaos,” she concluded with a smile.
Preparing for a New Chapter
Earlier this year, in March, Hoda revealed her plans to move with her daughters, though they’ll remain within the New York area. While she hasn’t disclosed the exact location of their new home, she shared her thoughts on moving during an episode of her podcast, “Making Space.”
“I’ve been considering a move for a while now. My kids and I are going to relocate to a new neighborhood with a new school. As I reflect on my own childhood, I remember moving twice and how those experiences shaped me. It’s fascinating how the stories we tell as adults often revolve around how we coped with change,” she reflected. “But now, as I prepare my children for this transition, I find myself wanting to shield them from the challenges that come with moving, even though these experiences could be valuable for their growth.”
Later that month, an insider exclusively shared with Closer how Haley and Hope are feeling about the move. “The girls are genuinely excited about the change, though Haley was a bit sad because she’s already formed some close friendships at her current school,” the insider revealed. “On the other hand, Hope, who’s only 4, is thrilled about the adventure ahead.”
