Tracee Ellis Ross Honors Her Mom in a Stunning Instagram Video
As the legendary Diana Ross turns 80, her loved ones are stepping up to celebrate her life and legacy. Tracee Ellis Ross, the talented actress and daughter of Diana, took to Instagram on Tuesday, March 26, to share a heartfelt tribute to her mom. In a video filled with nostalgia and admiration, Tracee reminded everyone of the incredible journey her mother has embarked on, both as an artist and a mother.
Tracee began her post with a simple yet powerful declaration: “Oh, how I love you, Mom.” She then went on to create an 80-second montage featuring 80 unforgettable images of Diana Ross, perfectly timed to celebrate her 80th birthday. But Tracee didn’t stop there. She added a fun fact that left many in awe: “Did you know I can ask Google for details about my life that I forget or am unaware of? I found this staggering…”
The Remarkable Achievements of Diana Ross
Tracee highlighted an incredible period in her mother’s life, spanning from 1976 to 1985. During these years, Diana Ross was not only raising her children—Rhonda, Tracee, and Chudney—but was also releasing an album each year. On top of that, she embarked on multiple tours, starred in TV specials, and even produced and starred in iconic films like Mahogany and The Wiz. But wait, there's more! In 1983, she organized a legendary Central Park concert, drawing an estimated 800,000 attendees. When the concert was rained out, Diana decided to pay for and redo it the next day, proving her dedication and professionalism.

Tracee also mentioned that during this time, Diana left Motown, purchased an entire floor of a prestigious Fifth Avenue building, bought an estate outside of New York, and even ventured into manufacturing with her Diana Ross Pantyhose line. All while navigating the challenges of being a woman in a world that often underestimated her capabilities.
Diana Ross: A Mother and a Trailblazer
Diana Ross is not only a global icon but also a devoted mother to five children. Her eldest child, Rhonda Ross Kendrick, was born to Motown founder Berry Gordy. She then welcomed daughters Tracee and Chudney with her first husband, Robert Ellis Silberstein. Later, with her second husband, Arne Naess Jr., she became the mother of sons Evan Ross and Ross Naess.
Tracee continued her tribute by pointing out the societal barriers Diana faced during her rise to fame. “This was at a time when women couldn’t apply for credit, serve on a jury, or access birth control but could get fired for being pregnant. Mind blown,” she wrote. Despite these challenges, Diana carved out a wildly successful, independent life as an artist, a mother, and a Black woman. By 1977, she had achieved iconic status, all while raising her three daughters without the support of a manager, partner, or even her own mother.

Tracee, now 51, made sure to emphasize that her mom was not only a trailblazer in her career but also a hands-on mother who prioritized family. “Amidst shattering records, breaking glass ceilings, and setting a new bar for style and glamor, we, her children, were always her priority,” Tracee wrote. And she’s not wrong. Diana Ross was always there for family dinners, birthday parties, and everything in between.
Tracee concluded her tribute with a touching comparison: “As I often say, ‘Diana Ross’ the beloved global icon is legendary but she doesn’t hold a candle to my Mama.”
