When Florida Georgia Line's Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley announced the band was breaking up back in early 2022, fans were left in shock. The duo had been a mainstay in the country music scene for years, and their split seemed sudden and unexpected. But as Tyler recently revealed, the decision wasn't entirely mutual.

Fast forward a couple of years, and Tyler, now 37, shared during a podcast appearance that the idea to break up the band largely came from Brian, his longtime partner in music. This revelation adds a new layer to the story of their split, offering fans a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes dynamics that led to such a major career change.

Tyler explained the situation in detail during an appearance on Barstool Sports’ “Bussin’ With the Boys” podcast, saying, “For me, it was really out of the blue. BK came to me and said, ‘Man, I’m really feeling like it’s time for me to do a solo thing.’ I was completely taken aback. We had just gotten out of our first deal, and we were in this amazing place that we’d worked a decade to achieve.”

  • He continued, “I was like, ‘Why don’t we ride this wave for another five or ten years, and then we can explore solo careers or whatever.’ But he was firm about it, saying, ‘No, now’s my time. I really need to do this for myself.’ And I was like, ‘Alright, whatever you need to do, bro. What do you want from me?’ He said, ‘I just want your support.’”

    The Final Curtain Call

In September 2022, Tyler and Brian, both 38 at the time, took the stage together one last time as Florida Georgia Line. Tyler addressed the crowd during the concert, saying, “This is our last official concert as Florida Georgia Line. Let’s see what we’ve got left in the tank.”

    A New Chapter

Since the split, both Tyler and Brian have been focusing on their solo careers. Despite this, Tyler hasn't completely closed the door on a potential reunion. He expressed optimism about the possibility of collaborating with Brian again in the future, saying, “We’ve had such an incredible journey together. Who knows? Maybe this break will lead us back to each other, and we can plan a reunion tour or something.”

He added, “It was definitely surprising when BK first brought up the idea, but it wasn’t as if we’d never discussed the possibility before. It was just one of those moments where I didn’t think it would happen so soon, you know what I mean?”

Tyler has been candid about the challenges of transitioning from being part of a duo to pursuing a solo career. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight in January 2023, he admitted, “This was a big surprise and a career shift for me. Going from being in a duo like Florida Georgia Line to stepping into this new phase as a solo artist was a massive adjustment. It was exciting, but definitely unexpected. BK came to me with the idea, and it took me some time to process it. At first, I thought, ‘Well, maybe I’ll just focus on songwriting and step away from the artist side of things.’”
