In a candid moment, the legendary singer discussed how she came to forgive her ex-husband, Robert “Mutt” Lange, for his affair with her former close friend and assistant, Marie-Anne Thiébaud. Shania, known for her big heart and resilience, explained that forgiveness is all about letting go, but it doesn't mean forgetting or excusing the wrongs done to you.

During an episode of the “Great Company with Jamie Laing” podcast on May 28, the 58-year-old star shared her thoughts on forgiveness. "It’s not just about letting go; it’s about understanding the other person," Shania said. "And sometimes, that might mean acknowledging they were wrong. You might even believe that forever. But forgiveness is about releasing the burden so it doesn’t weigh you down anymore."

From Heartbreak to Healing: Shania’s Journey

Shania and Robert, who tied the knot in 1993, were once a power couple in the music world. They welcomed their son, Eja D’Angelo Lange, in 2001, creating what seemed like a perfect family. However, their marriage took a devastating turn when Shania discovered Robert's affair with Marie-Anne Thiébaud. The couple separated in 2008 and finalized their divorce two years later. "Do I hate my ex-husband for making a mistake? Absolutely not," Shania revealed. "It was his mistake, not mine. I feel sad for him because he has to live with that decision. That’s not my burden to carry, and it’s not my mistake to dwell on. I’ve moved past it, and so should he."

Love Finds a Way: Meeting Frédéric Thiébaud

After the pain of betrayal and loss, Shania found love again with Frédéric Thiébaud, a man she married in 2011. Interestingly, Frédéric was once married to Marie-Anne, the very person who shattered Shania's first marriage. Despite this twist of fate, Shania sees Frédéric as the love of her life. "Fred is one of the smartest people I know," she said during a March 2023 appearance on Dax Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast. "Neither of us saw the betrayal coming. I allowed myself to trust too much, and I let my guard down. But anger? That anger came from a deep place, rooted in my childhood. When someone lies to your face, it cuts deep. Infidelity happens, but that wasn’t me. It took me a while to let go of the anger, but I did it because I had to move forward."

Co-Parenting and Looking Ahead

Shania also shared insights into her co-parenting relationship with Robert and how she balances it with her current marriage to Frédéric. "Robert and I parent well together, considering we don’t really communicate much," she said. "We both prioritize our son, Eja, and make sure he’s at the center of everything we do. It’s not complicated; we share spaces and responsibilities without drama." She added, "I believe everyone gets what they deserve. And I’ve been blessed with the greatest man on the planet. Life is good."
