Let’s talk about a heartfelt moment. Jenna Bush Hager, the beloved co-host of “Today,” got emotional while sharing her experience of moving out of the apartment where she had lived with her family for years. This wasn't just a change of address—it was a deep dive into nostalgia and the memories tied to a place.
During an episode of "Today" on Monday, June 3, Jenna revealed that moving was much harder than she anticipated. With tears welling up in her eyes, she recounted a poignant night when her family sat together on their couch in the now-empty apartment. “We moved two years ago, and it was really hard for me. I didn’t expect it to hit me so hard, but there was one night we all gathered on our couch in the empty apartment—all of us, the entire family,” she shared candidly.
Jenna, now 42, is raising three beautiful children—Mila, Poppy, and Hal—with her husband, Henry Hager. The transition from their long-time home wasn’t easy. “We sat there, and it was just this moment… my kids are so used to seeing me express emotions, but I was weeping because I realized how significant this place was. This is where we brought our babies home,” she explained, her voice trembling with emotion. “Henry and I experienced both the highs and the lows here—it’s a place filled with memories.”

Connecting with Co-Host Hoda Kotb
As Jenna teared up, she connected deeply with her co-host, Hoda Kotb, who is also preparing to move into a new home with her daughters, Haley and Hope. Hoda, 59, shared her own reflections on the memories tied to her current home, where she raised her children. “I’ve been thinking about it a lot. Both Haley and Hope came home to this house, and I remember them trying to crawl up the stairs. Now, they race up and down those stairs,” Hoda reminisced. “I remember the first time we brought them home and carried them up those stairs in their car seats. I’ve been looking through old videos of them from when they were tiny.”
Jenna nodded in agreement, her own emotions raw and visible. “I was weeping because I had the same thoughts. We brought our babies home to this place. I lost my grandparents in that apartment, and my daughters drew stick figures to make me feel better. It’s not just a house; it’s a place that marks time in such a profound way,” she said, her voice breaking with emotion.

Jenna referenced the passing of her beloved grandparents, Barbara Pierce Bush and George H. W. Bush, who died in April and November 2018, respectively. The apartment was a place where she not only celebrated joyous occasions but also found solace during difficult times. “You don’t often get the chance to pause and think, ‘Here we are, here I’m going,’ and that’s exactly what moving does,” she reflected.
Embracing Change with Grace
The emotional segment prompted Hoda to offer some thoughtful advice about moving forward after such a significant change. “I think what you did, which is so important and something I want to do, is take a moment. Don’t rush through it. Don’t rush through transitions or endings. To sit and take a minute, like you guys did on that couch, is powerful,” Hoda advised.
Jenna agreed wholeheartedly. “It’s going to hurt a little, and that’s okay. Because the reason it hurts is that it was so beautiful. All of your dreams came true in that place,” she said, her voice filled with understanding and compassion.
