Savannah Guthrie Returns to 'Today' After a Well-Deserved Break

There she was, bright and early on Monday, June 24, back in her familiar spot on Today alongside the ever-gracious Hoda Kotb. Savannah Guthrie, the beloved co-anchor of NBC's morning staple, made her triumphant return to the show after taking some much-needed time off. It’s not every day you can step away from the grind and come back feeling refreshed, but Savannah proved that it’s possible.

At 52 years old, Savannah looked as radiant as ever, dressed in a chic white short-sleeved top paired with a vibrant red and pink skirt. To add a touch of elegance, she accessorized with a bejeweled clip in her hair. Her absence on June 20 and 21 had left a noticeable void, as Hoda, 59, kindly informed viewers that Savannah was “taking some well-deserved time off.” And who could blame her? Everyone needs a moment to recharge, even the hardest-working anchors.

What Did Savannah Do During Her Break?

While Savannah didn’t immediately disclose her exact plans for her mini-vacation, she did share a tantalizing glimpse into her downtime. A photo of her enjoying a glass of wine accompanied by the caption “Out of office” gave fans a peek into her relaxed state of mind. It’s clear that she took full advantage of her time away to unwind and reflect.

  • One devoted follower commented under the post, saying, “Today (show) is less bright without you – but enjoy your well-earned break!” Another admirer chimed in with, “Good for you! You deserve it!” It’s heartwarming to see how much Savannah’s absence was felt and how much joy her return brought to her audience.

Family and Faith: A Balancing Act

Savannah, a proud mother to Vale and Charley with her husband Mike Feldman, isn’t just known for her on-air charisma. Earlier this year, she stepped away from the show following the release of her poignant memoir, Mostly What God Does. This deeply personal project saw Savannah embarking on a nationwide book tour to share her faith-based journey with the world.

“All of what I have come to realize is that all of that is my faith story: belief and doubt, you know, joy, and also disappointment and sorrow. It’s all part of my faith journey,” Savannah confided to Today.com back in February. Her reflections highlight the importance of embracing life’s complexities and finding meaning in every experience.

“I hope the book is appealing and compelling to anyone in any walk of life, because it’s just a gentle call to be loved. And once you feel that love, well, you’ll find that you can’t help but share it. It’s just contagious. And I think that’s really the thrust of the book and really what I was trying to say,” Savannah elaborated, emphasizing the universal appeal of her message.

A Heartfelt Moment With Jennifer Garner

During Monday’s episode, Savannah’s return to Today was marked by an emotional conversation with guest Jennifer Garner and her mom, Patricia Ann Garner. The duo joined the show after a persistent request from Carson Daly, who couldn’t resist bringing them on.

At one point, Hoda became visibly emotional while discussing Jennifer’s late father, William Garner, who passed away at the age of 85 in March. Jennifer, 52, paid tribute to her dad on Facebook, writing, “There is so much to say about my dad— my sisters and I will never be done talking about how wonderful he was, so bear with us — but for today I share these memories with my appreciation for the kind and brilliant man, father, and grandfather he was, as well as the loving legacy he left behind.”

  • Hoda, moved by Pat’s resilience, expressed admiration for her strength following the loss of her husband. “Another thing we admire about you is your husband passed a little bit ago, and I can only imagine how hard it was to get out of bed, to just start another day, but one day you just decided, ‘Today’s the day,’” she told Pat, 86.

With wisdom and grace, Pat responded, “Well I pretty much decided anyway, before, that I would be all right. I was so worried about being a widow and then one day I had an epiphany, ‘You will be alright.’ And I really have been alright. Now, I miss him and I so wanted to tell him I was gonna be on the Today show.”
