Even though Kate Hudson is currently glowing in her relationship with fiancé Danny Fujikawa, she recently took a trip down memory lane and opened up about her emotional breakup with ex-husband Chris Robinson. In her candid conversation, she shared how tough it was to move on from someone she once loved deeply.
Looking Back: A Beautiful but Challenging Chapter
During an appearance on SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show, Kate, now 45, spoke honestly about her seven-year marriage to Chris. “My relationship with Chris was so beautiful, and there was so much love there,” she said. “But as life goes on, people grow in different directions. It was a really hard breakup for me because I was deeply in love with him. I thought this was going to be forever, but sometimes things just don’t work out the way you expect them to.”
Kate went on to explain that their differences in lifestyle played a significant role in their separation. “Chris is an incredible person—brilliant, funny, and one of the best vocalists out there,” she explained. “But being in a band and living the life of a musician can be challenging for a relationship. It requires a lot of flexibility and understanding, which wasn’t something we could maintain long-term.”

The Early Days of Love and Marriage
When Kate tied the knot with Chris in 2000, she was just 21 years old. At that age, she was still figuring out who she was and where her life was heading. “We were young and in love, and it felt like nothing could go wrong,” she recalled. “But as time passed, my career started taking off, and I began realizing I wanted to explore new paths. We simply weren’t aligned anymore, and that’s okay. Life moves forward, and so do we.”
Together, they welcomed their son Ryder in 2004, whom Kate describes as the most precious part of their shared history. “Ryder is such a blessing,” she said. “Even though our relationship didn’t last, he’s the most beautiful reminder of what we had together.”
Learning to Coexist After Heartbreak
After her split with Chris, Kate went on to have another high-profile relationship with musician Matt Bellamy. They welcomed their son Bingham in 2011 but ultimately decided to part ways in 2014. Despite their breakup, Kate emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive relationship with Matt and his wife, Elle Evans.
“Matt and I always wanted to make sure Bing felt supported and loved no matter what,” Kate explained in a 2021 interview with Women’s Health. “He told me something that really resonated with me: ‘I want Bing to feel like he’s gaining something, not losing anything.’ That mindset has helped us all—me, Matt, Elle, and Danny—create a strong support system for our kids.”
A New Chapter With Danny Fujikawa
Kate’s current relationship with Danny Fujikawa began in 2016, and they welcomed their daughter Rani in 2018. In 2021, Danny popped the question, and Kate couldn’t have been happier. “Danny is such a wonderful person,” she gushed. “He’s not only amazing with my kids but also brings so much joy into my life.”
Though she’s excited about the future, Kate admits that planning a wedding isn’t exactly her idea of fun. “Honestly, I just don’t want to deal with all the planning,” she confessed on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live. “It’s not my favorite thing in the world, but I know it’ll happen eventually. We’ll get married soon—I promise!”
