"Ann Richards was a monumental figure in my life. Her passing in 2006 left me devastated, even though I only met her once. I admired her deeply—her life was a testament to making a difference for the greater good. I felt a personal mission to convey her inspiration, to uplift others, and to remind everyone that life can improve, that government can be a force for good, and that life is indeed positive, funny, and wonderful. It wasn’t just sadness—it was a calling to honor her legacy."
How Did Holland Create 'Ann'?
"I dove deep into research in 2007, immersing myself in every aspect of Ann Richards' life. After two-and-a-half years of study, I began crafting the play, which took about a year. The first performance was in Texas in 2010. From there, it expanded to larger theaters across America before making its way to NYC. It was a labor of love, and it continues to evolve."

"No work of art is ever truly complete, and 'Ann' is no exception. I plan to perform it one more time in Pasadena, California. "Performing as Ann Richards feels natural and empowering. But honestly, I don’t consider most of my work as accomplishments. I’ve done plenty of mediocre projects and acted as a 'gun for hire.' However, I’ve also been incredibly blessed along the way. Opportunities have fallen into place, almost as if guided by a force beyond me. It’s humbling and awe-inspiring."
