There’s nothing quite like bonding over music and food, and for Carnie Wilson, those moments with her legendary father, Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, are truly special. “We talk about our favorite music artists,” Carnie exclusively shares with Closer. “That’s what he and I love to discuss. And then there’s food. He absolutely loves my mac and cheese, so whenever I visit, I always bring that over for him. It’s our thing.”
For Carnie, her passion for both food and music has taken center stage in her new cooking series, Sounds Delicious with Carnie Wilson. “This show is an absolute dream come true for me,” Carnie, now 56, tells Closer. “I’m completely blown away by how perfectly this series aligns with my vision. It’s like inviting someone into my kitchen and pulling up a stool at the counter. We cook together, laugh, share crazy moments, and, of course, talk about music. The combination of music and food is so deeply tied to who I am and the life I’ve lived. It’s truly a reflection of me.”

“Each episode feels like a one-on-one conversation. We dive deep into personal stories, and every guest brings something unique to the table. It’s not just about cooking; it’s about creating connections and sharing experiences through the universal language of music and food.”
You’ve been very open about your weight-loss journey. How does your relationship with food influence the show?
“To be honest, the show isn’t about my weight or any specific diet. I’ve been cooking for as long as I can remember, no matter where I was in my journey—whether I was at my heaviest, my thinnest, or somewhere in between. Some foods I choose to eat, while others I don’t. But what drives me is the joy of cooking for others. There’s nothing more satisfying than watching someone enjoy the food I’ve prepared. This show is all about celebrating the passion for cooking, the joy of great food, and the gratitude we have for being able to share these moments together.”
Growing Up in the Spotlight
Growing up, did you realize your dad was a famous singer with the Beach Boys?
“Of course, I knew. I remember being on stage with him when I was just six years old, surrounded by thousands of screaming fans. I loved the music, and I could feel the energy and joy it brought to everyone. It made me incredibly proud to be his daughter. The music wasn’t just entertainment—it was a source of connection and love.”

“When I was younger, my parents divorced, which was tough. But my mom did an incredible job keeping us grounded and focused on the arts. As I grew older, music became the bridge that brought my dad and me back together. It’s the thread that ties us together and forms the backbone of our relationship. Music is our language, and it’s what connects us.”
A Look at Brian Wilson’s Health Journey
Your dad has faced some health challenges. How is he doing today?
“Dad is about to turn 82, and he’s doing remarkably well under the circumstances. He’s had two major spinal surgeries, so walking isn’t as easy for him anymore, but he’s determined. He rides his recumbent bike every day to stay active. His sense of humor is still sharp, and he’s as strong as ever. We often sing together, and I can see the love and joy in his eyes. He’s staying active, engaged, and grateful for every moment.”
What’s your approach to eating these days?
“I avoid sugar and gluten because they don’t work for me. The truth is, my relationship with food has been a lifelong journey. I’ve learned to be mindful of how certain foods make me feel. If I eat something tempting, I know I’ll regret it later, and the cycle will start again. It’s like maintaining sobriety for me—I take it one day at a time, staying present and focused.”
What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned?
“My children have taught me so much. They’ve shown me the importance of gratitude—focusing on what we have rather than what we lack. Patience is another big one for me. Sometimes I have to remind myself to slow down and savor the moments. It’s like mindful eating—appreciating the beauty of the food in front of you, recognizing it as a blessing, and enjoying it fully.”
How has sobriety transformed your life?
“Sobriety saved my life, plain and simple. After my gastric bypass surgery, I was warned that drinking could damage my liver because of how alcohol is processed differently in my body. When I realized the risks, it was terrifying. But sobriety has given me clarity, both physically and spiritually. Every day, I serve others and stay connected to my higher power, which I affectionately call HP. I pray every day, thanking HP for my sobriety and the gift of each new day.”
What are you most proud of?
“I’m incredibly proud of my daughters and the incredible people they’ve become. I’m grateful for the decision to have children and for the love they bring into my life. Professionally, I’m proud of the hard work I’ve put into my music career and my experience hosting a talk show during a challenging time in television. I try not to dwell on regrets but instead focus on keeping my heart open and embracing every opportunity.”
