Kelly Ripa Opens Up About Her Unique Approach to Intimacy
When it comes to matters of the heart—and other things—Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos have always been open books. The power couple has shared their fair share of personal stories over the years, but Kelly's recent revelation on their morning show, Live With Kelly and Mark, truly left fans stunned. The 53-year-old television icon shared a surprising confession about her preferences when it comes to intimacy, and it’s definitely not what you’d expect.
Eating Before Sex? Not According to Kelly Ripa
During a recent episode of Live With Kelly and Mark, Kelly brought up an interesting study that suggested eating before engaging in intimacy could enhance the experience. “Apparently, for more pleasurable sex, you should eat first,” Kelly joked to the audience. The All My Children alum then quipped, “Apparently, I’ve been doing it all wrong these years.”
Kelly's Strict 'No Eating' Policy
Despite the study's findings, Kelly made it clear that she’s sticking to her guns—or rather, her salads. “Now, you know, I have a very strict no eating thing before,” she explained while sitting beside Mark, who listened intently. “He knows if we go out to dinner, and I order more than a sensible salad, he’s all bummed out. He gets bummed. He’s like, ‘Are you sure you want the burger?’ And I’m like, ‘I’m absolutely positive.’”

Mark playfully chimed in, “Dessert?!” Kelly admitted that her strict policy does sadden her husband, but it’s a rule she’s unwilling to break. “They say that soft caresses don’t feel as satisfying if you’re hungry,” Kelly read off her notes. “There’s a gut hormone that drives food motivation and increases food intake, which is intrinsically linked to levels of pleasure. So, it’s better to eat before you’re intimate.”
Despite the study’s recommendations, Kelly isn’t budging. “Nope, I’m sticking with my salad,” she declared with a laugh.
Caught in the Act: The Time Their Daughter Walked In
During a January 2023 episode of Live, Mark confessed to a rather embarrassing moment when their daughter, Lola Consuelos, walked in on them mid-act. “She’s so excited to be living with us again because it’s her last semester in college,” Mark shared. “She’s not going back to her apartment; she’s staying with us. And you know what she does now? The door’s closed in our bedroom, no knock, she just walks in and says, ‘Hey girls!’”

Mark revealed that he had to have a candid conversation with Lola about knocking before entering their room. “I said, ‘Lola, I don’t want you to take this the wrong way. I’m very excited that you’re home. We missed you. You’re the heart of this family. You’re so funny and fantastic—but you gotta knock,’” he explained.
Kelly chimed in with a laugh, adding, “Because at this point, anything you walk in on is your problem.” Mark playfully warned Lola, “Well, be warned, Lola Consuelos. Cause this week’s freaky week, isn’t it? Yeah, this is January 30. We’re going to get freaky this week!”
Family Life Beyond the Spotlight
In addition to Lola, who is 23, Kelly and Mark share two other children, Michael and Joaquin Consuelos. All three have since moved out of the house to focus on college or their careers. Currently, Lola resides in London but returned home to celebrate her mom’s recent achievement—being named a Disney Legend at the Disney Legends Ceremony on Sunday, August 11.

Her former Live cohost, Ryan Seacrest, presented her with the award at the D23 event in Anaheim, California. “Thank you so much, and Ryan, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I’m just so glad that you finally found something else to host,” Kelly joked in her acceptance speech. “This feels surreal for me, and I wanna thank Bob Iger for this truly magical experience.”
