Let’s talk about something that’s been on everyone’s mind lately. Rachael Ray, the beloved chef and TV personality, recently opened up about the criticism she's faced over the years for choosing not to have children with her husband, John Cusimano. In a heartfelt conversation during an episode of her popular podcast, “I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead,” Rachael sat down with fitness guru Bob Harper to discuss her personal decision and the backlash she’s endured.

Rachael Ray and Bob Harper Discuss Life Without Kids

During the podcast, which aired on Tuesday, November 12, Rachael and Bob Harper, both in their 50s, shared their perspectives on family life and parenting. Bob, who has long been open about his choice not to have children, expressed his admiration for those who do take on the challenge. He said, “I chose to never have children. God love all the people that have kids.” Rachael quickly chimed in, saying, “Me too! And boy, did I get bashed for it over the decades.”

Rachael went on to explain that the criticism she received was not just from strangers but also from people close to her. It’s not always easy to make choices that go against societal norms, and Rachael has faced her fair share of judgment. But she’s remained steadfast in her decision, knowing what’s best for her life and her marriage.

Bob Harper, known for his work on “The Biggest Loser,” shared his own experiences growing up. He mentioned that when he was younger, “it was very uncommon for queer people to have kids.” This reality shaped his perspective on family life. Instead of having children, Bob has poured his unconditional love into his furry friends. “What my dogs teach me on a daily basis is that unconditional love,” he said with a smile.

It’s clear that Bob has found a unique way to nurture and care for others through his relationship with his pets. He sees his dogs as an extension of his family, and they bring him immense joy and comfort. This sentiment resonates deeply with Rachael, who shares a similar bond with her own dogs.

Rachael Ray’s Love for Her Dogs

Rachael Ray is no stranger to the joys of pet ownership. As a cookbook author and TV personality, she spends countless hours working, but her dogs are always there to provide comfort and companionship. She said, “For me, if I have the absolute worst day, or I’m sick as a dog — as the expression goes — the thing that makes me feel best is to go home and literally climb into bed under a blanket with my dog.”

There’s something truly special about the connection between humans and their pets. Rachael explained that having a pet “just makes you happier and better and you have all this love in your life all the time, no matter what.” It’s a reminder that family doesn’t always have to look the same for everyone. For Rachael, her dogs are her family, and she wouldn’t have it any other way.

Bob even joked about judging people who don’t have dogs in their homes, saying, “I might even judge people a little bit if they don’t have dogs in their home.” It’s a playful comment, but it underscores the deep connection that many people feel with their pets.

Rachael has spoken candidly about her life with John Cusimano, her husband of over 15 years. In a previous episode of her podcast, she gushed about their lasting marriage and how they complement each other. “You know, [John is] a lawyer and a musician,” she shared. “I’m not a musician. I’m certainly no lawyer. I hate reading legal documents and official stuff, but we balance each other in a weird way. We allow each other to be open to different worlds.”

  • John is not just Rachael’s partner in life but also in business. He’s been an integral part of building her culinary empire, and Rachael credits him with being her biggest cheerleader. “I love my husband, John, and John works with me and has built our business and our brand together, but we agreed in concept about service to community, service to the world, service to animals, to children,” she said.

Rachael continued, “It was very important to me that I marry him, because I thought this person could be a true partner in what I believe in and helping people and building not a business, but a community.”

In the past, Rachael has been open about her decision not to have children, citing her busy career as one of the reasons. “I don’t have time,” she told People in May 2007. “I work too much to be an appropriate parent. I feel like a bad mom to my dog [Isaboo, a pit bull] some days because I’m just not here enough. I just feel like I would do a bad job if I took the time to literally give birth to a kid right now and try and juggle everything I’m doing.”
