Get Ready for a Fresh Take on Familiar Faces

Hold onto your tartans, folks! Two beloved characters from the hit series Outlander are making a comeback in the upcoming spinoff, Outlander: Blood of My Blood. But here's the twist—they'll be younger versions of themselves. Yes, you heard that right! Dougal and Colum MacKenzie are returning, and this time around, they'll be portrayed in their youthful glory.

Thanks to exclusive photos obtained by TVLine, fans will get to see the MacKenzie brothers in their earlier years. The talented Sam Retford will step into the role of a younger Dougal, while Seamus McLean Ross will bring the youthful charm of Colum to life. These fresh faces promise to add a whole new layer of intrigue to the series.

A New Perspective on Jamie Fraser's Godfather

And the excitement doesn't stop there! Another iconic character is getting a youthful makeover. Rory Alexander has been cast as a younger version of Jamie Fraser’s godfather, Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser. This fresh take on Murtagh will give fans a deeper understanding of the man who played such a pivotal role in Jamie's life.

The new series will delve into the lives of Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, as well as Claire Fraser’s parents, Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp. This unique storyline will weave together two parallel love stories set in different eras. Jamie’s parents will be brought to life in the early 18th-century Scottish Highlands, while Claire’s parents will be explored in the backdrop of WWI England.

As the official synopsis suggests, the series will center on these two compelling love stories, offering fans a rich tapestry of history, romance, and adventure. The cast is shaping up to be just as impressive, with Harriet Slater and Jamie Roy set to play Jamie’s parents, and Hermione and Jeremy Irvine stepping into the roles of Claire’s parents.

While no official premiere date has been announced, fans can expect the prequel to join the Starz lineup sometime in 2025. Meanwhile, Outlander is currently airing its seventh season, with the eighth and final season on the horizon.

What Happened to the Lord John Spinoff?

While fans eagerly await the new spinoff, there’s been some bittersweet news regarding another potential series. The much-anticipated spinoff centered around the character Lord John Grey seems to have hit a roadblock. Actor David Berry revealed that plans for the series fell through, leaving fans disappointed.

In a candid interview with Deadline in November, David opened up about the situation. “I haven’t spoken about this before. But now that the series is wrapping up, I feel more comfortable discussing it. There was a time during Season 4 when we were set to film the Lord John series. It was even written—well, a writer was attached, and I had signed a contract to star in it.”

“We were down to the wire waiting for the network's approval, but ultimately, it was decided that it wasn’t the right fit for them at that moment. I was fully prepared to take on the role, and I’m still ready if the opportunity arises,” he added.

David remains hopeful that the spinoff idea isn’t completely off the table. “Executive producers Matt B. Roberts and Maril Davis have shown a lot of interest in making it happen. It really depends on finding the right network and gauging audience interest in moving forward with a spinoff,” he explained.

“At one point, it was definitely on the cards. The fact that it didn’t move forward was disappointing. But whether or not it happens again really depends on the audience. If there’s still interest in exploring more of this character, then anything is possible,” David concluded.
