Rob Lowe's Journey To Sobriety, Fatherhood, And Acting Success

'9-1-1: Lone Star' Rob Lowe Talks New Show, Reveals Life Advice

Here’s a story that’s worth telling. Rob Lowe, the iconic actor we all know and love, shared a heartfelt moment at the winter Television Critics Association press tour earlier this month. When Rob decided to get sober 30 years ago, he thought, “I’m not going to be cool anymore.” But life had other plans for him. A call from none other than Steven Tyler changed his perspective completely. “I heard you’re in recovery, and it’s going to be great,” Steven said. Rob’s response? “Dude, if it’s good enough for f–king Steven Tyler, it’s good enough for me!” And let’s just say, it’s been an incredible journey ever since.

Life After Sobriety: Marriage, Family, and Career

Fast forward to today, and Rob Lowe, now 55, is living proof that life after recovery can be nothing short of amazing. He’s been blissfully married to Sheryl Berkoff since 1991, and they’re raising two wonderful sons, Matthew, 26, and John, 24. Rob’s also diving headfirst into a new TV series, 9-1-1: Lone Star, airing on Fox. Guess who’s co-starring with him? Liv Tyler, Steven Tyler’s daughter. “Every time I look at [her],” Rob said, “it makes my heart happy.” Isn’t that a beautiful circle of life moment?

Relating to His Role: The Captain in Charge

When you watch Rob play the captain in charge of junior firefighters, you’re witnessing something deeply personal. “Trying to herd the cats of younger people finding their way through the world felt really natural,” he added. For Rob, being a captain is like being a father to the firehouse. “Captains are like the fathers of the firehouse, so that was very easy to relate to,” he explained. It’s a role that resonates deeply with his own life experiences as a dad.

Rob doesn’t just play a fatherly role on screen; he’s also passing along wisdom to his kids and his younger co-stars. What advice would he give his 20-year-old self? “Don’t swing at the first pitch,” Rob exclusively told Closer Weekly at the recent California Strong Celebrity Softball Game. “Don’t take anything too seriously. Enjoy the ride of life.” And isn’t that advice we could all benefit from?

Staying Youthful: The Secret to Rob's Success

Rob Lowe isn’t just living life to the fullest; he’s staying remarkably youthful while doing it. “I live a very healthy life,” he continued to Closer. “I eat well and I don’t drink. And if sleep were an Olympic sport, I’d be Michael Phelps.” His role on 9-1-1: Lone Star is physically demanding, but it keeps him in top shape. “I’m going up and down ladders and rappelling down buildings,” he said with enthusiasm. “The 12-year-old boy in me just loves coming to work.”
