Kristen Bell Gets Real About Marriage Struggles

Marriage isn’t all sunshine and rainbows, and Kristen Bell isn’t shy about sharing that truth. The "Veronica Mars" actress, who’s famous for her candid approach to discussing her relationship with husband Dax Shepard, recently opened up about a major argument they had. It’s not always easy juggling careers, family life, and keeping the love alive, and Kristen knows that better than most.

In a candid conversation on the "Life Is Short with Justin Long" podcast, Kristen Bell revealed the details of one of their biggest fights yet. "We had this pretty incredible fight recently. Incredible. I mean, we were screaming at the top of our lungs," said Kristen, 39. "It was all about the household chores that I felt I needed help with." Sometimes, even the strongest couples need to air out their grievances, and Kristen and Dax are no exception.

What Sparked the Argument?

The star of "Frozen" — who has been married to Dax, 45, since 2013 and shares daughters Lincoln, 6, and Delta, 5 — explained that the fight began when she left a note asking for help with some chores. "We have a relationship where you're supposed to be able to say, 'I need your help with this,'" Kristen explained. It’s all about communication, right? But even the best-laid plans can go awry.

Kristen described the situation: "I left a note saying, 'Hey dad! Would you mind taking the two towels in the dryer and folding them?' It seemed like such a small ask, right? I thought, 'That's just 10 minutes of work. I can say that.' But, at that point, the housework was really starting to pile up for me. Keeping up with the mom stuff, like shoes being outgrown, all of that—it was a lot."

How Did Dax React?

Kristen said things were fine until they went to bed the following night. "He said, 'When you leave me notes, yeah, I feel really controlled,' and he launched into how he felt about it," the "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" star recalled. "And before I knew it, we both lost it. We were yelling, throwing harsh words around, and it turned into this big, angry fight about how nobody does anything for anybody else."

Despite trying to keep her cool at first, Kristen admitted that the argument eventually escalated. "I grabbed my pillow and stomped down the hall. I slept in the front room, crying. We didn’t talk for three days," she confessed. Sometimes, even the best intentions can lead to misunderstandings.

How Did They Resolve It?

Kristen revealed that instead of exchanging apologies, they adopted a new dog. "This is so much better than an apology," Kristen marveled, explaining that she brought their daughters to a dog café and rescued a pup named Frank. "So I bring the dog home, it's great. I didn’t get an apology, but I got a dog!" Sometimes, a furry friend can mend even the biggest rifts.

Despite not saying sorry, Kristen praised her husband for stepping up afterward. "We never talked about that fight, ever, but I will say this: Every single thing that I have needed done or thought I’d want help with since that fight, he has been ahead of," she proudly gushed. "I couldn’t complain about him if I tried right now."

Since Kristen and Dax began dating, they’ve become one of Hollywood’s most relatable couples. During her podcast appearance, the "Bad Moms" star explained why they feel the need to be so transparent with their fans.
