During an event on February 18, Ree shared a funny anecdote with Us Weekly about her eldest daughter, Alex, who is now 22. "Alex did not like to cook at all," Ree joked. "If I were a good mother, I would’ve given her cooking lessons before she went off to college!"
The Transition to College Life and Cooking
Despite her initial disinterest in cooking, Alex has embraced the challenge of feeding herself while living independently. Now working and living in an apartment in Dallas, she’s had to figure out how to make meals that are both satisfying and delicious. "She made brisket once, and it turned out really tough," Ree recounted with a laugh. "So I told her, 'Just put it back in the oven and keep cooking it until the fork can pull it apart.' It's fun to see her figure it all out. She’s got a built-in app—me!"

Ree explained that Alex isn’t alone in this journey. Her younger daughter, Paige, who’s 20, is also getting more involved in cooking. "Paige is really good at making charcuterie boards or little nibbles," Ree said. "She gets bored easily, so she likes to keep busy. And what better way to do that than in the kitchen?"
Cooking Tips from Mom
When her daughters come home for visits, Ree notices a shift in their willingness to help out in the kitchen. "They’re much more inclined to pitch in now," she said. "It’s like they’ve realized how important cooking is, and they want to learn more." Ree, who’s also a mom to two teenage sons, Bryce and Todd, with her husband Ladd Drummond, takes pride in being a resource for her kids. "They can just call me if they have questions. They don’t have to search the internet," she added with a smile.
Ree also shared that she’s done her part to make sure her daughters feel connected to home, even when they’re miles away. "I gave Alex Pioneer Woman cookware," she revealed. "And I just sent her a care package with a Pioneer Woman knife and all sorts of fun kitchen gadgets. It’s my way of reminding her that home is never too far away."
