In a candid moment, Eve addressed the "backlash" she faced after revealing the deep and often challenging discussions she's had with her husband, Maximillion Cooper, following the death of George Floyd. The cohost of The Talk stood up for her interracial marriage after being criticized by some on social media who wondered if this was the first time she broached the subject of racism with the British entrepreneur.
Clearing the Air
In a preview clip for the Tuesday, June 9, episode of The Talk, the 41-year-old star spoke passionately, saying, “I want to be crystal clear about this. We’ve had countless conversations over the years because I’ve been in this relationship for a long time. When you're in an interracial relationship, these kinds of discussions are inevitable—it’s just part of the journey. So no, this isn’t the first time we’ve talked about it.”

Challenging Times Call for Honest Dialogue
Eve explained that their discussions have become even more intense lately, given the current state of the nation and the world. "We’re living in one of the most challenging periods in recent history, and that’s why these conversations have been so tough," she said. The singer behind "Love Is Blind" emphasized that because no topic is off-limits, she and Maximillion, 48, are revisiting issues to dig deeper and understand each other better.

Extending the Conversation
The Barbershop actress, who married Maximillion in 2014, revealed that their heart-wrenching talks even involved her husband’s four children—Jagger, Lotus, Mini, and Cash. “I have four stepchildren who now have a Black stepmom,” she said emotionally. “So these conversations for me are about checking in with them, making sure they feel supported. I ask them questions like, ‘Has anyone ever said anything racially insensitive to you? How do you feel about having a proud Black stepmother?’ These are heavy topics, but they’re necessary because we’re in a heavy time.”
Eve first spoke openly about these challenging discussions during the Tuesday, June 2, episode of The Talk. “I can’t see life through his eyes, and he can’t see life through mine,” she shared. “All he can do is try to understand and ask the right questions, and he genuinely wants to get it. That’s what everyone—our nation, our world—needs to do right now. It’s going to be uncomfortable, yeah, but we need to embrace that discomfort if we want to find solutions.”
