Still Sharp at 87: Yoko Ono's Remarkable Resilience
Let’s talk about Yoko Ono. These days, she’s not exactly out partying or jet-setting around the world, but trust me, she’s still very much in tune with what’s happening out there. "She's definitely slowed down," admits longtime family friend Elliot Mintz in the latest issue of Closer Weekly, which you can pick up at newsstands right now. "But she’s as sharp as ever," he adds. At 87 years old, the widow of the legendary John Lennon now uses a wheelchair and requires around-the-clock care. Yet, her spirit remains undimmed. Back in 2017, at an event where she didn't disclose the specifics of her health issues, Yoko revealed, "I’ve learned so much from having this illness." With her son Sean Lennon by her side, gripping his arm, she expressed gratitude for the journey, saying, "I’m thankful."
A Legacy Built on Strength and Determination
Now, Yoko Ono isn't just known for her groundbreaking art and music. Her childhood in war-torn Japan shaped her into a force to be reckoned with. Mintz points out that for years, Yoko was the one handling the family business, allowing John to focus on being a house husband. That’s some serious dedication right there. Today, Yoko reportedly oversees a staggering $700 million in assets. But she’s not just sitting on that wealth—oh no. She continues to give back generously, like when she donated $250,000 to a struggling NYC hospital during the height of the pandemic. Talk about making a difference!

The Weight of Regret and Moving Forward
For all the incredible things Yoko Ono has achieved, she carries some heavy emotions too. "Maybe people already know this, but I miss John every day," she once confessed. A close friend reveals that Yoko hasn't stopped replaying John's tragic murder in 1980 in her mind. "She wishes she could do that night over," the friend explains. It’s a weight she carries, but it’s also part of who she is today.

Family Ties That Bind
These days, Yoko finds her greatest joy in the time she spends with her children. Her son Sean, 44, is her closest confidant. "Sean is her best friend. They have dinner two or three times a week," Mintz shares. And then there’s Kyoko Cox, her daughter from a previous marriage. Kyoko was taken away as a child by her father, Anthony Cox, in violation of a custody order. But after John’s passing, Kyoko reached out to her mother, and today, their relationship is stronger than ever. Yoko has said, "This is the best time of my life," and you can feel the sincerity in those words.
