Reba McEntire doesn't need a stamp of approval from her longtime friend Melissa Peterman when it comes to her blossoming romance with Rex Linn. That's because Melissa, in an exclusive interview with Closer Weekly, reveals that she believes the CSI: Miami star is a perfect match for the country music legend. In her own words, Melissa says Rex "lets her be her," which is exactly what we all want in a partner—someone who allows us to be our authentic selves.
Melissa Peterman's Insight on Reba's Relationship
Melissa Peterman, 49, who starred alongside Reba on the hit series Reba, opened up about the relationship in a recent interview on Monday, October 19. She sweetly shares, “He lets her be her. You know?” Melissa goes on to elaborate that what all of us truly desire in a relationship is someone who accepts us for who we truly are, without trying to change us. In Melissa’s eyes, Rex Linn is that person for Reba.
Melissa, who co-hosts the “Living and Learning” podcast with Reba, points out that finding the right person isn’t easy for someone like Reba, whose life is constantly in the spotlight. Melissa explains, “It’s not easy for her to find someone who embraces the person she is when she’s not on the stage. Someone who lets her be who she truly is.”

Why Rex Linn is a Great Match for Reba
Melissa further elaborates, saying that Rex, 63, understands that Reba is a multifaceted individual. “Sometimes I’m gonna get to do something super glamorous and it’s gonna feel like this… and sometimes I just want to take a walk in the yard and do nothing,” Melissa says, emphasizing that Rex doesn’t try to "fix" anything about Reba, 65. Melissa adds, “I think he really gets it. He’s also funny and he’s a good storyteller, which she likes. He’s got a good sense of humor, but ultimately, I think what we all look for in a partner is somebody who accepts you.”
First Impressions and Approval
Melissa recalls being at the dinner with her husband, John Brady, when Reba and Rex went on their first date in January 2020. She praises Rex for being confident enough to date a legend like Reba. Melissa shares, “I think you need to have that confidence when you’re dating kind of a legend. You have to be able to walk in the room and not worry about it. Rex is great. We like him! We all approve!”
With 20 years of friendship under her belt, Melissa knows Reba better than most. She shares with Closer why Reba is such an incredible person. “She’s very loyal and I feel like sometimes there’s this quiet understanding that we’re gonna know each other forever,” Melissa says. “She’s true blue, a ride or die. That’s all I can say and I know that. I can call her at any point, at 3 in the morning and ask for something I needed and it would be there.”
