Imagine growing up in a place where you’re "as poor as you can get," overcoming two battles with cancer, and still becoming one of Hollywood's most celebrated actors. That's the incredible journey of Ernie Hudson. In a heartfelt interview with Closer Weekly, the Ghostbusters star, now 74, shares how his wife of 35 years, Linda, has been the pillar of strength that kept him grounded through it all.

A Journey from Hardship to Stardom

Ernie Hudson's rise to fame is nothing short of inspiring. Born in Benton Harbor, Michigan, he grew up in a household where resources were scarce, but dreams were abundant. "Linda’s been able to see the better part of me when I didn’t see it in myself," Ernie reveals. "She’s just a good person and it makes me want to be a better man." Alongside unforgettable performances in films like the 1992 thriller The Hand That Rocks the Cradle and TV shows like Grace and Frankie, Ernie has also made his mark as an executive producer with the BET+ drama The Family Business, now in its second season.

Despite having over 240 screen credits, Ernie never loses sight of what truly matters. "To be there for somebody, to share a life with someone who’s very unique and special—it’s a blessing," he says, emphasizing the importance of family and love in his life.

So, Ernie, how’s life treating you these days?

"I’m doing well, thank you," Ernie says with a warm smile. "I’m trying to make sense of the world right now. I’m actually at my second home in Minneapolis. My wife is from here, and her dad will be celebrating his 100th birthday in November. A few years ago, she felt the need to be close to her parents, so we decided to buy a place here."

A Time of Reflection in Minneapolis

With everything happening in Minneapolis, it’s a poignant time to be there. "I’ve always thought of Minneapolis as a progressive city," Ernie reflects. "So, I’m surprised by the current situation, especially regarding the police. But we’re all in this together, figuring it out as we go."

Let’s talk about Ghostbusters. What made working on that film so special?

"Being in New York and meeting Bill Murray was incredible," Ernie recalls fondly. "We laughed a lot on set, and I still have a great time whenever I see Billy. That movie has had such a profound impact on my life—it changed everything for me."
