Last February, Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, stepped into a whole new world with the birth of her grandson, August. This has been a delightful yet challenging experience for her. "I’ve got to learn to play trains, trucks, and diggers because I’ve always had girls in my life and Barbies," she says with a playful chuckle. But she’s not setting any boundaries—she adds, "If he wants to play with Barbies, I’ll do that too! I’m ready for anything." It's clear that Sarah is embracing this new chapter with open arms and an open heart.
A New Role and an Old Dream
This exciting period in Sarah’s life is just getting started. She’s set to become a grandmother for the second time this fall, and she’s already making her mark in the literary world with the release of her first novel, My Heart for a Compass. She dedicated the book to her daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, saying, "I don’t want them to wait till 61 to follow their dreams." Writing this novel has been a lifelong dream for Sarah. "It’s always been my dream to be a novelist," she admits, and now she’s finally living it.
Through the Storms: A Journey of Resilience
Sarah’s journey hasn’t always been smooth sailing. She married Queen Elizabeth’s second son, Prince Andrew, in 1986, and since then, she’s faced her fair share of ups and downs in the public eye. "I am a very sensitive person, and I take things personally. I really did mind when all those terrible articles were written about me," Sarah confides. But she’s found strength through it all, leaning on her support system of friendship, family, and work to stay focused on what truly matters. Therapy has also played a significant role in helping her navigate life’s challenges.

Enduring Friendship and Support
Even though Sarah and Prince Andrew's marriage ended in 1996, they’ve managed to maintain a close friendship. "We are very good coparents," Sarah shares proudly. She’s stood by Andrew through the scandals that led to his retirement from royal duties, describing him as a "thoroughly good man." Their bond remains strong, and they continue to support each other as they navigate life’s twists and turns.
Grateful for Life's Gifts
Sarah is content with her life as it is today. "I’m definitely not dating," she confesses with a smile. Her focus is on her family, and she cherishes the time she spends with her daughters and their families. "The three of us call each other a tripod, in that we will always support the other," she says warmly. Despite the ups and downs, Sarah remains grateful. "I’m never complacent about the fact that I have been the luckiest girl ever," she reflects, showing a heart full of appreciation for her life's journey.
